Vnles you know a person unless (hat ih-i-noii eoiut-s into your life lu some way you nre llot greatly concerned about whether he Is good or bad. de sirable or objectionable. It's so with a store. The peo ple who never visit it care iioth ing about it une way or the oth er. It doesn't exist for them. Itut when they are persuaded to patronize it when they come to turn the spotlight of their at teutiou on it wheu it comes to have a part In their lives, as some stores must have In nil lives then it's different ; then it does matter whether it strives io win commence; it does mat ter whether or not its price con cessions are genuine, dependa ble. If it meets all tests that a good store must stund when it is advertised when it thus in- lies the critical attention of the people then advertising will "make" the store. If it fails in most of the vital things if it proves, under the light of putf licily not to he much of a store, TIIKX A1)VI'.KT1S1(J WILL NOT PAY for it will empha size the shortcomings as well e? merits. l'or these same reusons it is generally assumed that the store which does not advertise is seeking to avoid close inspec tion and comparison, and that (he store which does is court ing them.
