EVERYBODY TALKS OF EUGENE AND HER PROGRESSIVENESS Commercial Traveler Tells How City Is Given Great Deal of Free Advertising "Wherever you go," said J. J. Mur ray, a well-known commercial trav eler, at the Hoffman House" thiB morning,, "you hear of Eugene and her progresslveness. As far east as Baker City and as far south as Duns mulr, Cal., you hear as much about this city as you do In Portland. En genets growth Is very noticeable to one who comes here only once In ev ery few months. This Is my first trip to this city in six months, ana l nonce great progress in that short time. Two handsome brick blocks that were not even started when I was here luirt are now nearlng completion and I notice other improvements about the city that are surprising. Eugene Is getting more free advertising on ac count of her progresslvcnees than any other city in the Northwest, and 1 think the extensive street pavlnis that the city has done during ibe past year and a half Is largely r sponsible for It. I was in LaGraride the other day and two merchants there asked me if it would be advis able to sell out there and come to Ku gene to engage in business. 1 could not advise them as to the wisdom of such a move, but I told them thut there was as much difference In a business way and In nearly every oth er way between Eugene .and ).n Grande as there Is between day anil night."
