The Tribuna estimates the total casualties in Calabria and Sicily at between sixty and seventy thousand. A dispatch from Palermo says the dead at Messina, as a re sult of the earthquake and tidal wave there yesterday, is esti mated at twelve thousand. Scores are imprisoned in the ruins owing to inadequate means of rescue and must perish. Other dispatches from Messina place the dead at even more appalling figures. The Tribuna publishes a telegram that the losses aggregate 75,000 persons.
