Values are now much higher than six months niro, and deulera say they compare well with the quota t Ions of years back. The local market Is destined to as sume considerably more Importance in the near future, when the hlg parkins: plant of the I'nlon Meat' Company on the I'enlUiUtln Is in opera t Inn. Prlcesin all other green stuff were raised, beans being held at 20 cent" a pound, peas at 15. sprouts at 1 20 cents and artichokes at $1.40 a dosen. j Suppllefi the south are steadily grow ling smi.w r, and the market stronger, .and recent frosts In seme of the gar- in Eugene. LI nnpiuvciiiciiL 1-1 1 4 East 8th In the sentiment of the California trade ! regarding onions, and prices In the ! south are showing a material advanca Supplies of California onions are fret ting rather low. and It Is now stated that a large per cent of the remaining noinings are not or the best quality. For that reason the California trade 1b looking toward Oregon for supplies and several sales of car lots have been re ported here during the past 24 hours pn a basis of $1 per hundred pounds, Port land. Buying Potatoes for SontA Not only is the south looking after our onions, nut there nas ueen a dis position among the trade of California during the past day or so to tako on a few care of our potatoes around 75 and 85c per hundred pounds. There has, however, been little disposition among the local producers to yet go and most of them have their supplies pitted and are holding out for $1. While the local market Is firm, trade is not very exten sive. Prices remain as previously list ed. Dressed Venl la IHkIi The market for dressed veal Is very high, with supplies scarce and buy org anxious to secure their requirements. The genoral price for dressed veal along the streot today is 10c a pound, although one dealer is reported to have asked 10 He and another la said to have sold at 9 He. The middle figure is therefore the most accurate. Dressod hogs of good quality nre rather short of the supply Just now and prices are firmer. PORTLAND L1VBSTOCK MAIUvKT Portland Upton Stockyards, Dec. 23. There Is rather' a quiet tone In the live stock njiwket' of the local yards in gen eral, ami local values are unchanged. While there waa a disposition among buyers to depress the hog market of late, arrivals have been so far short of the demand that It. Is quite likely for awhile that values here will rule stndy but prnetleafly everything depends cn the attitude, of the Kastern markets. Quotations here during the past few days havo been quite steady. Sheep Market la Firmer For good sheep there Is qulto a firm tone ruIiiiK today In the local ynrd;t. Arrivals are again small, and practi cally all the recent run was for one or two packers. Therefore the genoral trade la still very short of sheep sup plies iiml for the best quality some times bids a fractional Increase In the price. The cattle market Is firm for the va rious gnules, but arrivals today wero light. Of late the shipments have hnen of tmt ordinary quality, and this ac counts for the absenco of sales t for mer, top figures. The best stuff now coming forward In the steer depart ment will not bring more than $Un at the yards. The following Is the general range.
