B. Innir Sfl! Residence Property The committee who were appoint ed by the Springfield Commercial Club on tlie extension of the city lim its met the directors of the Booth Kelly Company at Eugene last even ing. They report a most friendly meeting, nnd Inform us that the Idea of taking the mill compnnv Into the city limits has heon abandoned for the present. Tho company assured them that In the not far distant fu ture there would be some surprising changes for the city of Snrlngfleld, as they had only commenced to make Improvements on their lironertv here. The boys came home very much pleas ed with the rosulls of their interview and feel that In this corporation we have a friend that will help make Springfield the best town in Oregon. Will Appoint New Mhi -IimI The city council Is still undecided who will bo the next marshal, it is up to the mayor lo appoint some one. but as yet there has been no ap plication and no one suggested who is willing to qualify. The position is rather an undesirable one at best, but the council at last realize that living wages must lie paid, therefore have dVclded that It Is best to pay a good salary and got a marshal who will enforce the laws that are laid down by the city fathers. The mayor and each member of the council have been heard to say that whoever ac cepts the appointment must make n general clean-up regardless of friend or kin. showing no favors to any one. but simply do his duty at all times and enforce the ordinances. Other News Notes Grover Long, n practical candy maker of twelve, years' experience, hns rented the Kepner building nnd will establish a first-class candy kitchen. Mr. Long comes from Port land, where he has been engaged in business for some time. He comes highly recommended as a mechanic In his profession and a good citizen. The News is Informed that J. B. Innis has sold Ills fine residence property In North Springfield this week to J. P. Fry. This Is one of the finest residences In that part of town and nt the time It wns built was the finest house in town. We understand that Mr. Fry will occupy It after the first of the mouth. "Doc' 'Marshall closed a deal with J. P. Fry the first part of the week whereby he became owner of the con fectionery store.
