Many promin ent business and ijfesslouul men of other towns have announced their In tention of eventually coming here lo live. Our splendid schools, finely im proved streets beautiful homes and commercial advantages all unite to 'attract the home builder and the cap italist. ' ' Man is so constituted that lie al ways "views with alarm" the "dan gerous tendencies" of the other par ty, and with "pride" the patriotism of his own. Yet, the aim of all par ties is the same to run the pie counter. Isn't it rather creditable t'o'rilin' as a whole that a man who has been a practical politician as long as Mr. Sherman should find that the hardest known knocks are being given to the style of whiskers he: affects.? Mr. Bryan wants the newspapers to ask their subscribers for campaign funds. Most of them, we are afraid, have their hands full hustling funds for the insatiable paper trust. :" "" Albany seems to have two booster crowds. One of them Is trying to boost the town and the other Is try ing to boost Booster Dasent out of his job. They gave Candidate Kern a hot welcome ln Indianapolis, even If Fairbanks did make the principal speech. Kitchen, who recently soli out his personal property out on Hie farm he had rented near Rowland, and moved to Eugene and png-iRed I '. the livery busluesn, w:is here the lat ter part of the week, having come down with a load of telephone poles for the company. The river has become very low and since the log drive pass?d this city there is hardly enough water left, for the boys to swim in t!?at is, when they all get In. On these warm af ternoons the river Is so full of boys that it resembles a Southern alliga tor pond. Three linemen for the Pacific Tel ephone Company came down from Eugene Friday last and worked until Monday evening, doing some repair ing on the toll line n?ar here. It is the Intention of the company to re build the entire line from Portland to Eugene this summer, and put on two more copper loops, so that more busi ness can be handled without so much delay as is now occasioned by a rush of business. E. L. Bashford, who conducts a flour mill ln Roseburg, was here the latter part of last week, looking after business matters. He has in the past purchased a large amount of his wheat in this section, and Intends do ing so in the future, and perhaps on a larger scale than in the pat. Mr. Bashford has just recently moved his family from Roseburg to Vancou ver, Wash., where he has built a 'iO barrel flour mill, which will be read; for operation about the first of the year. He Is a thorough business man and has been very successful in the milling business. Bulletin. THROlGH STAGE TO KITSOX SPRINGS.
