The river has become very low and
since the log drive pass?d this city
there is hardly enough water left, for

they all get In. On these warm af
ternoons the river Is so full of boys
that it resembles a Southern alliga
tor pond.
Three linemen for the Pacific Tel
ephone Company came down from
Eugene Friday last and worked until
Monday evening, doing some repair
ing on the toll line n?ar here. It is
the Intention of the company to re
build the entire line from Portland to
Eugene this summer, and put on two
more copper loops, so that more busi
ness can be handled without so much
delay as is now occasioned by a rush
of business.
E. L. Bashford, who conducts a
flour mill ln Roseburg, was here the
latter part of last week, looking after
business matters. He has in the past
purchased a large amount of his
wheat in this section, and Intends do
ing so in the future, and perhaps on
a larger scale than in the pat. Mr.
Bashford has just recently moved
his family from Roseburg to Vancou
ver, Wash., where he has built a 'iO
barrel flour mill, which will be read;
for operation about the first of the
year. He Is a thorough business man
and has been very successful in the
