' . - SERIOUS RIOT OV Kit ; CLEVELAND STRIKE Cleveland, May 19. The most se rious violence of the street car strike which has been on here since Sunday occurred In Lakewood, a Buburb, to night, when four men were wounded by , bullets; one car burned and an other practically wrecked. Trouble had been anticipated and the first car run Into Lakewood carried no passengers... When it stopped before the railway bridge, the crowd, which had been lying In wait, leaped from their hiding places and opened fire upon the crew and the guards. Two guards returned the fire, more than thirty shote being exchanged. While the. shooting was in progress the crowd grew to nearly a thousand. Another car arrived and the crew joined in the fight. Gasoline -was poured on the second car and It was burned to the trucks. The Cleveland police were notified and sixty offi cers were sent to the rescue. The first car 'was riddled 'with bullets, and with windows broken proceeded to the barn. Motorman Elholz was shot In the leg. John Gray and J, Al exander, guards on the second car, were shot In the chest, and Mace Bup Ungame, who was In the crowd which made the attack, was shot in the hand. ' t A .('iillforniiin's f.uck.
