SERIOUS RIOT OV Kit ;
CLEVELAND STRIKE
Cleveland, May 19. The most se
rious violence of the street car strike

occurred In Lakewood, a Buburb, to
night, when four men were wounded
by , bullets; one car burned and an
other practically wrecked. Trouble
had been anticipated and the first
car run Into Lakewood carried no

the railway bridge, the crowd, which
had been lying In wait, leaped from
their hiding places and opened fire
upon the crew and the guards. Two
guards returned the fire, more than
thirty shote being exchanged. While
the. shooting was in progress the
crowd grew to nearly a thousand.
Another car arrived and the crew
joined in the fight. Gasoline -was
poured on the second car and It was
burned to the trucks. The Cleveland
police were notified and sixty offi
cers were sent to the rescue. The
first car 'was riddled 'with bullets,
and with windows broken proceeded
to the barn. Motorman Elholz was
shot In the leg. John Gray and J, Al
exander, guards on the second car,
