L DeLano Julius 8Goldsmjth BUILDING BEING ERECTED FOR SMALL BROOM FACTORY V. O. Taylor, who recently arrived In Eugene with his family from Gu thrie Centre, Okla., with the Inten tion of starting a broom factory here, haH decided to enter that business and Is erecting a small building just north of the Luc key planing mill on South Willamette street In which to house his plant. The establishment will be small at first, and the output rather limited, but as the business grows, as Mr. Taylor expects it to, more machinery will be added and the factory gradually enlarged. There ought to be a good demand for Eugene-made brooms if they are equal In quality and as cheap as those Imported, and Mr. Taylor says he can make just as good a broom and sell It just as cheaply as the out side manufacturers. STATU TRKASlItK.K HACK TO HAIjKM Stale Treasurer George A. Steel, who has been Indisposed for several days, has so far recovered that he an nounces his intrntlon of going to Sa il' m tomorrow to attend to his offi cial duties, as usual. Ho thought at first that he would leave the city for the state capital this morning, but finally concluded, on the advice of members of his family, to allow na ture) unother day In which to make repairs, tmhandlcapped by work or worry. Inst when District Attorney Man ning Intends filing an informniton against Steel in connection with his handling of the educational fund, is not announced; in fact, Mr. Man ning himself cannot name the day. He asserts that as soon as he has decided definitely on the call rue to be lodged against Steele ho will take action. The nature of that churgo depends, in a measure, on what, in formation may be furnished by T. T. Ilurkhurt In case he should decido to enter a plea of guilty to convert ing t lie educational fund of the state to his own use ns treasurer of the Title Guarantee & Trust company. 1'ortland Telegram. IIOI'KXE MAY NOT GO AS DELEGATE It Is confidently predicted today by the anti-Bourne Republicans that Jonathan Bourne has lost out and will not be one of the Oregon dele gates to the Republican national con vention at Chicago. These same peo ple assert, also that neither will Charles W. Fulton be one of the delegates. The anti-Bourne people have they contend, completely upset tho frame-up which Bourne hud ar runged In various counties of Ore gon and in Multnomah particularly. The nntl-Bourne men now sny that, they have enough votes to control the state convention, and, this being the case, they will not make Bourne a national delegate, and, by way of punishing him still further, they will Instruct tho delegation for Tafl. Bourne's, sole hope now is in the country, and In his ability to disor ganize tho anti-Bourne movement, and Bourne has always been at his best ns a dlsorganizer of the oppu sit Ion. The Greater Norris & Kowe rircus, museum, menagerie, hippodrome and i congress of nations, arrived here at an early hour this mornins. trans-, ported by their own special train ; consisting of f.d double length cars. I all of which were well laden with the paraphernalia belonging to the cir cus. The parade was given at 11 o'clock this morning and proved to he a very Interesting event, and thousands of people from all parts of the county were In attend ance. Shortly after noon the crowds commenced wendinir their way to- I ward the grounds and at the appoint ed time for the grand marcn to ue gln nearly every seat in the spacious tented auditorium was occupied. Xorrls & Rowe have enlarged their menagerie until It is now the best se lected and one of the largest ever seen in a tented exhibition. The per formers who took part in the exhibi tion were all stars of the sawdust arena. Performers of international reputation, whose daring feats and exploits held the audience spell bound, enthralled, bewildered and dazzled. This season finds Xorrls & Itowe well up among the other two big curcuses of the country, Barnum ftliailey and the Ringling Brothers. No act that they presented has been seen In the West before; their show has been more than doubled in size and there are over 200 circus cham pions on the long program that they are presenting. Every artist with the circus Is a "head-liner." Norris & Howe's daily average expenses this season are $4500. The new street parade which Ihey presented com pares favorably with anything that lias ever been seen in this line before. Norris & Howe show In Eugene to morrow afternoon and evening. I.eavengood, an attorney of this city, who has been locating people on Ore gon & California railroad land. The Inspectors have examined the records at the office of the county clerk, showing In detail the lands filed up on by I.eavcngood's applicants. By means of a cleverly worded cir cular it Is said by the investigators, heavengood Induced scores of persons to make applications for the purchase of Oregon & California railroad land, lending Ihem to believe they would secure the land without doubt. In sending this literature through the malls, Leavengnod, It Is stated, came in contact with the federal statute relating to the "use of the mails for fraudulent purposes." He Is said to have taken In many thousands of dolurs from his operations. Lcavengood has been trying for some time to dispose of his property here In order to move to Portland to reside. He left here a month ago with his family on a pleasure trip to Mexico and Kansas. It is not known whether or not he will be prosecut ed.
