After two mi sticcessiul attempts to commit sui cide by jumping Into the Pennsylva nia canal. Henry T. Turpin, aged 32, succeeded In drowning himself. A vicious bulldog, the companion of Turpin. fought the rescuers at the first two attempts, biting savagely, but the rescuers finally got Turpin out of the water. At the third at tempt one of the rescuers managed to fight past the dog and Jumped Into the stream to save Turpin, but the d ig jumped In and again attacked his rescuer, who had to light the dog to save his own life.
