BAILEY HILL GOLD MINE IS A MYTH .MIXING 'MAX EXAMINES IMK'K AXI CAX FIXI) NO TRACK OF GOLD Olt SILVER A local paper a few days ngo re ported the finding of a vela of gold beuiing quartz on H. McCollum's farm at Bailey Hill, a few miles west of Eugene, and stated that the ledge was sixty Teet wide, bearing free gold and silver. The story hns created some excitement and since then quite a number of persons have visited the premises where the alleged mine of wealth had been discovered. A well known resident of Eugene, who has miued a greater part of his life, drove out' to the place yesterday. He ex amined some of the rock which Mc Collum had dug out of the side of the hill and found that It contained not a trace of gold or silver. McCol lum was pounding some of It In a glue pot with a king bolt from a wagon, and smnll particles of iron worn from the king bolt were mixed up with the dust into which the rock had been pounded. This. Mct'nlliim thought, was silver, but this mining man soon convinced Him of his error HARRY HOWN CANDIDATE FOR SHERIFF Harry L. Bown, the Democratic nominee for sheriff of Lane county, was born in Fulton county, Illonols, December 22nd, 1866, and with his parents moved to Lane county in the summer of 1884 and settled near El- mira. After receiving the education afforded by the county school of thej neighborhood, bis father not being able to educate him further, he worked out for neighboring farmers, thereby supplying the.ameans to at tend the Eugene public schools and thereafter taught school,- and by this obtained means with which to attend the normal school at Monmouth. In 1900, and while teaching school, he was offered and accepted the sec ond deputyship by the late Sheriff W. W. Withers, and which position he filled with credit to himself until the hitter's death in 1903. During Womb as Well as Men. Are Hade . Miserable by Kidney and Bladder Trouble. Kidnev trouble preya upon the mind, discouragesandlesseusambition; beauty, vigor unu cheerful ness soon disappear when the kidneys are out' of order or dis eased. Kidney trouble has become so prevalent that it is not uncom inon for a child to be born afflicted with i eak kidnevs. If the child urinates toooften, if the urme scalds the flesh, or if , when the child reaches an age when it should be able to control the passage, it is yet afflicted with bed-wetting, depend upon it, thecause of the diffi culty is kidney trouble, and the first step should be towards the treatment of these importahtorgans. This unpleasant trouble is due to a diseased condition of the kidneys and bladder and. not to a habit as most people suppose.- Women as well as men are made miser able witli kidnev and bladder trouble, and both need the same great remedy.
