Mujilcion, April lli There la prob ably no Institution In Lane county! tliat contributes as much money to; the citizens at so small expense as the Siuslaw salmon hatchery, which j has nearly completed Its work for; this season. The expense to the ; balance of the county and state Is ', roiiiratlvely nothing, as the funds I for building and runnini; it are all or J m arly all from the canning and fish-j g,'iK licenses paid on the Hiuslaw river. They now have about two million fish which they are putting Into the tributaries of the Siuslaw as fast as practical. Allowing fifty per cent of I hem to be destroyed by trout, there will still be one million to return here and be canned on the river, which at a low estimate would mean liia.OOO cases, which means over SiiUii.OOO added to tho wealth of Lane county. Illfll " LrulLLTV Hull j EVAPORATOR AT COTTAGE GROVE Unless all signs fall, the first of May will see'auother enterprise start ed at Cottage Grove that will be of great benefit to this section of Lane county, says the Western Oregon. C. M. Uensinore. who for years has been Identified with the development of Lane county, and parilctila:' Inter ested in the canning and fruit dry ing business, came up from Eugene Monday and took up the proposition of organizing a company lure for the; purpose of ereeting a fruit dryer. Mr. DensiniS.i met with the Com mercial Club of this city on the even ing of his arrival, and the plan was put under way. Business called him home Tuesday, and the matter will rest until next Monday. During his stay hern Mr. Densiuore made many acquaintances, and in a geneiwl way outlined his plans that tho subject might be fully discussed during the time Intervening. The Merchants' Protective Associa tion of this city has also become in terested In this project, and through them n n effort will lie made u inter est, tho farmers and fruit raisers. To that end It is announced a meeting, to which every man interested in the development of the fruit industry will be made welcome, will be held Tuesday. Mr. Densmore thinks mat nn or ganization on a b;isis of jr.oon capi tal stock will be quite sufficient. In fact, he is or the opinion that if $3. 000 of the capital slock Is subscribed that will meet all the present needs. That is (insured, judging l'r::m the en thusiasm thai some of the citizens hnve evinced. A very liberal plan of payment on stock subscribed is suggested, name ly, one-fifth of the amount subscrib ed, cash down, the balance one-tenth per month until p.ild. Mr. Densmore will take $1000 In stock himself. The dryer as first installed will be necessarily small, on account of the limited amount of fruit that can be relied upon, but the enterprise will be the means of developing the fruit industry here.
