Still, liko other big games, it attracts some mighty small hangers on, and more than one of thorn has sneaked into the gamo and carried off the bank wad. " A man who has Recently quit the consular service says, "Climate some times has more to do with the loca tion of American consulates than commerce," which probably means that the climate to which he was sent did not suit him. Albany Wanted Matlock ( liromvsville Times) It Is published to the world that the Albany high school students and faculty are thoroughly convinced that they were "deliberately victim ized" by the two Eugene men who served as judges on the debate lust Friday night between the Browns ville and Albany high schools. Since they are so out-spoken, it may be Interesting to stale that Albany en deavored to secure as one of the Judges, Mayor Matlock, of Eugene, a man elected after a red-liot campaign on a municipal ownership ticket. Mayor Matlock Is nil enthusiast on the ownership question. Of course Brownsville, having the negative, ob jected to this questionable procedure ana Albany then selected another Eugene man. It Is now up to the faculty of the Albany high school to state through the press how they were "deliberately victimized." (Special Correspondence.) lottiand, Or., Jan. 27 Working in connection with several commercial bodies over the state, and aided bv individual fruit growers, the Portland C onimorcial Club has issued a fruit bulletin composed of four pages of the New Year's Oregonlan. Each pa per sent out bears a paragraph, con spicuously stamped In two places telling the reader that he can buv his' ticket on the road most convenient to him at a remarkably low colonist rate between March 1st and April loth. The $30 rate from the great Middle West Is made a striking fea ture of the stamp.1 Of course men tion Is also made of rates from oth er sections. Tho bulletins are pre pared In advance for the use of agents employed by the various rail roads, localizing the rate for their own particular line. The mid-winter livestock show at Denver, just closed, was a tremen dous success, and many of the exhib itors expressed a determination to be present at the livestock show in Port land this fall. The Portland Coun try Club and Livestock Association has promised the Hunt Club that ac commodations will bo ready for them 111 June, and an army of men and horses are at work at the present time to make this pledge good. The Pacific Coast Ad Men will hold their next annual convention in Port land during the rose festival. The Oregon Development league is exceedingly prosperous. The past two weeks have added three members to the organization the Stavtou Commercial Club. W. I,. Ereres. pres ident, R. A. Elwood. secretary; the Coin rcial Club of Mosier Valley. with Dr. David Robinson, secretarv; the Scio Commercial Club, T. .1. Mu'n kers. president, and A. O. Prill, sec retary. The Hood River Commercial Club will hold its third annual banquet Friday evening, January 31st. Dele gations will be present from Port land, The Dalles, and other cities throughout tho state. Newberg will have a bousewn rill ing, under the auspices or tlfe New berg Board of Trade, on Fobruurv 1. celebrating the opening or their Vine new Imperial Hotel. The executive committee of the Portland Commercial Club is apoeal Ing for additional funds to advertise the resources of Oregon, and at no time during the active work of that committee have responses been so generous. New subscriptions are coming in. former contributors are either doubuing or materially in creasing their subscriptions, and ev ery cent, of it is devoted to advertis ing the state and not tho city. In many quarters of the country where osteopaths have bocomo nu merous the doctors of this new school have become the regular family phy siclay. They have been called In alike Tor the troubles of children and pa rents, and their marked success in the treatment of diseases of every character makes their services much sought after.
