Mr. Warren would like to get some currants and gooseberries, especially currants, and asks those who have some good samples of that fruit of any variety to bring them to him. He also wants other fruits, In fact, anything In the line of farm products that will make a good show In gat the fair. NEAI, NOW IX KANSAS AND PKOSPKUOVS Former Itesidcnt of Lam County, When- He Had Nothing, is Well-to. Ho in the Fast Ktlitor Guard: 1 know that you and your many subscribers well aud favorably remember C H. Neal, who used to live up on Parsons creek, on a little stony, 'lonesome SO acres. That was about all ho had except a wife, four children and a mule team. He left Oregon in 1900, moving his family to Thomas county, Kansas, where I found him a few weeks ago, the owner of more than 900 acres of which is now In grain, nad when 1 last saw It it Indicated a bumper crop. Chil is president of the Farmers' El evator Company, located on the Kock Island railroad at Colby, the county seal of Thomas county, five miles from Chll's wheat ranch. He Is also treasurer of the Farmers' Telephone Company. His daughter Grace Is one of tile teachers In the city school at Colli!. Eii teaches school in the winter and works on his father's farm In summer time. Joe, nearly 21 now. Is always on the farm. Both boys are excellent baseball players. Liz zie, now IS years old, is one of the best baseball pitchers In the girls' ball team for many miles around. Mrs Neal is the same home care taker that she was ir Oregon, an eye out to everything going on on the farm. While there 1 saw ninny ex amples of industry that would pay well to emulate. Their modern, up-to-date farming machinery is a Chi nese puzzle to ine, but little Joe, as I Ufed to call him, would manipulate it better than the average boy would (lie old-fashioned bull tongue plow 40 years ago. They have harness hanging In the barn when the teams are Idle (which is seldom) that would make one think they had walked Into Preston's shop on Wil lamette street. They have a grain header, four different kinds of four and six-horse discs, large feed grind er, cultivators, four wagons, which is not enough when hauling grain from the thresher to the elevators, mowers, a riding harrow that covers the ground 3G feet wide every round. All would make one think they had stumbled into Duncan's Implement yard. Then the big wind mill one hundred and thirty feet below the surface forces the water up into three large tanks, ono of them so large that by going round and round one coud swim for miles. Chil and the boys klep 81 hend of horses and mules on the ranch. Mrs. Neal uses a cream separator and In the summer time makes butter from fourteen cows, and all (hat 1 have mentioned from acre to calf has not a dollar's indebtedness against them. JOHN K. COOK. The General Condemnation of SoCalled Patent or Secret Medicines of an injurious character, which indulge in extravagant ami unfounded pretensions to cure all manner of ills, ami tho o National Legislation Enacted to Restrict Their Sale have established more clearly than could have been accomplished in any other way The Value and Importance ol Ethical Remedies. Remedies which physicians sanction for family use, as they act most beneficially and are gentle yet prompt in effect, ami called ethical, because they are of Known Excellence and Quality and of Known Component Parts. To gain the full confidence of the Well-informed of the world and the approval of the most eminent physicians, it is essential that the component parts be known to and approved by them, ami, therefore, the California Fig Syrup Company has published for many years past in its advertisements and upon every package a full statement thereof. The per fect purity and uniformity of product which they demand in a laxative remedy of an ethical character are assured by the California l'ig Syrup Company's original method of manufacture, known to the Company only. There are other ethical remedies approved by physicians, but the product of the California Fig Syrup Company possessci the advantage over all other family laxatives that it cleanses, sweetens and relieves the internal organs on which it acts, without disturbing the natural functions or any debilitating after effects and without having to increase the quantity from time to time. This valuable remedy has been long ami favorably known under the name of Syrup of Figs, and has attained to world-wide acceptance as the most excellent of family laxatives, and as its pure laxative principles, obtained from Senna, are well known to physicians and the Well-informed of the world to be the best of natural laxatives, we have adop'-d the more elaborate name of Syrup of Figs and F.lixir of Senna, as more fully descriptive of the remedy, but doubtlessly it will always be called for by the shorter name of Syrup of Figs; and to get its beneficial effects, always note, when purchasing, the full name of the Company California Fig Syrup Co. plainly printed on the front of every package, whether you simply call for Syrup of F'igs, or by the full name, Syrup of Figs and Elixir of Senna, as Syrup of Figs and lilixir of Senna is the one laxative remedy manufactured by the California Fig Syrup Company, and the same heretofore known by the name, Syrup of Figs, which has given satisfaction to millions. The genuine is for sale by all leading druggists throughout the United States in original packages of one size only, the regular price of which is fifty cents per bottle. Every bottle is sold under the general guarantee of the Company, filed with the Secretary of Agriculture, at Washington, 1). C, the remedy is not adulterated or mis branded within the meaning of the Food and Drugs Act, June 30th, 1006. CALIFORNIA FIG SYRUP CO. Louisville, Ky. San Francisco, Cal. U. S. A. London, Kiigland.
