Mr. namn- cer toio a u"1"" " number of Improvements which they moect to make at the resort this ... r..nw rannrrpr tnnRT HT 11 summer. If It Is possible to get the lumber In time a double-deck veranda be built onto the front of the hotel. This Improvement has been In contemplation since last summer, but heretofore It has been Impossible to secure the iniiiuci, me i Blue River being away behind with orders, and It would be too expen slve to haul the lumber from the valley. Mr. Hafllnger thinks he can get the lumber before the coming sa son is over, as a mill is to be erected at McKenzie Bridge and will be in operation within a few weeks. An Improvement that has long been in contemplation and will be made this year, if possible, is the piping of the hot water of the springs to the hotel, the ofllce and the cot tages for heating purposes. The ear ly mornings and the evenings in that altitude are quite cold, even In the summer time, and the pleasure seek ers hover close around the fires. Mr. Ilallinger has disposed of his restaurant business in Portland, and intends hereafter to make Foley Springs his permanent home. Dur ing the next few years other im provements not mentioned here will be made at the resort, and by the lime the electric line up the McKen zie Is completed they will be in shape to care for the much larger patronage they are bound to enjoy with the ad- -ont nf Ihp rnllwnv. At least Ave canoes will go in one fleet, and It is believed here that that is the largest number that ever started from this point. Some of those who will make the trip are William IlugRlns, Louis Pinkham, Hubert qbertautler, and Richard Charman. Last fall three O. A. C. students tried the trip between here and Cor vullis and were almost drowned. Since then no one has tried the river, though in summer time It is not un usual for light boats to pass over the rapids. Ilelow Albany the fleet will sail each canoe being provided with a small canvas. BAND WILL ORGANIZE TOMORROW NIGHT A meeting of the band enthusiasts Is cnlled to be held in the navies hall on Ninth street Friday evening, March 22, at S o'clock, for the pur pose of taking steps to organize. All musicians who desire to become members of the band are urged to be present. The committee which Is so liciting monthly subscriptions from the business men for the support of the band is meeting with good suc cess and will probably raise the re quired amount within a few days. PKKSIlYTKItlAX MKKTINUS I l)i:'KlXHM(; MICH IXTKKKST ' The series of meetings in progress at the Presbyterian church is devel oping much interest and strength. hast evening the church was crowd ed to its utmost capacity. Mr. Steele preached a very strong sermon from the text: "God was in Christ recon ciling the world to himself." He dealt with the character of Clod, showing that God does not hate man, 1 and is only prevented from destroy- 1 Ing them by Christ, but that Jesus Christ is the revelation of God. Je sus loves and saves bedause God loves. Jlcn do not need to fear God, but fear sin and the devil. The music was excellent. The singing of Mr. lloppy Is one of the chief attractions of the meeting. The orchestra will be present again to night to assist in the song service. Colilinitlee. o BASEBALL MEN WORKING OUT INGYHNASIUM The baseball candidates for the University team are working out hard in the gymnasium during the wet weather but the last few days of outside practice showed that some changes In the probable lineup are likely. Huston, who has been try ing for pitcher, has shown up some remarkable ability as an Intlelder and It seems likely that he will play there instead of pitching. Ramp who was an Intlelder last year, Is likely to go to the outfield, therefore, though these things are not certain until about the first game. Kelly will probably play In the field part of the time, also for though he caught last year Johnson Is showing up equally as well behind the bat. "Dud" Clark Is making good at center Held. He is easily tbe fastest man of the outfielders. Kent ley is also doing good work chasing Hies. Coach llezilek has been working very hard with his pitchers. Last year the weakest part of the team was the slabsters and as there Is no new material In sight, Hezclek Is simply developing the pitchers of last year. So far, he has worked on the fundamentals trying to get form. Html seems to be trying the hardest. and last year all that kept him from : am! participated in by over a hnn being lirst-class goods was wildness. I died ladles.
