A big square-rigged snip went on the reef twenty miles east of here early last night. The life saving station made fruitless attempts all through the night to reach the ship. With daylight this morn ing there is no sign of life aboard. All are believed to have been lost. The name of the ship can not be ascertained. The House of Representatives and Senate of the Oregon legislature met in joint session for the first time today, as provided for by the state constitution to ballot for a Unitod States senator. Representative Eddy of Tillamook placed State Sena tor ?ulton of Clatsop in nomination. Senator Mulkey of Polk placed ex-governor Geer in nomination. The joint ballot resulted: Fulton 31 Geer 18 Wood (Democrat) 17 Scattering Republicans, ..21 Senator Fulton gained three votes from yesterday, Eddy of Tillamook and Yam hill, Huntley of Clackamas, Webster, Clackamas.
