night.
A big square-rigged snip
went on the reef twenty miles
east of here early last night.
The life saving station made
fruitless attempts all through
the night to reach the ship.
With daylight this morn
ing there is no sign of life
aboard. All are believed to
have been lost.
The name of the ship can
not be ascertained.

Senator Mulkey of Polk
placed ex-governor Geer in
nomination.
The joint ballot resulted:

Wood (Democrat) 17
Scattering Republicans, ..21
Senator Fulton gained
three votes from yesterday,
Eddy of Tillamook and Yam
hill, Huntley of Clackamas,
