The Indian War Veterans ol Washington County met In this city Saturday and oouferred with Representative Tongue as to methods of procedure in getting tbelr pensions under the recent bill passed by CongresB. Mr Tongue pledged them his hearty support. A Portland Suicide Special to the Guars. Portland, Or, July 21 The body of Mrs H A Smith was found floating in the Willamette river this morn ing. A note, stating mat sne was eoiner to commit suicide and bidding her family fare well, was found pinned on her jacket. The cause of the rash deed is not known. John W. Mackay Dead. Special t. the Quart London. July 21. John W. Mackay, president of the Pos tal Telegraph-Cable Co., died in this city last night. Rich Farmer Killed, Speolal to the ouard. St Joseph, Mo, July 21. Alfred Fenton, a rich farmer, was shot dead in the streets of St Joseph today by Mark Dunn, who has thus far elud ed capture. Terrible Marine Disaster. Special to Qtard. Hamburg, July 21. The steamship Premiui, with 1S5 passengers on board, was cut in two and sunk by the tug Hansel on the Elbe river at an early hour this morning. Over 150 persona were drowned. Farmer Injured.
