War Veterans ol Washington County
met In this city Saturday and oouferred
with Representative Tongue as to
methods of procedure in getting tbelr
pensions under the recent bill passed
by CongresB. Mr Tongue pledged them
his hearty support. The following res
olution was introduced by Hon W H
H Myers, of Forest Urove, and it was
carried iirespeotlve of party:
"We, the undersigned, constituting
the Indian War Veterans of Washing
ton county, Oregon, being fully cog
nizant of the untiring tfl irls of Con
gressman Hon T H Tongue, to secure
for the Itdian War Veterans those
rights which are granted to soldiers of
all wars, and being grateful for the
efforts whloh have led to sucoess In
pensions being granted to them, do,
irrespective of party, hereby resolve:
"That, inasmuch as in Mr Tongue Is
fouud all the qualifications necessary
for a successful representative of a state
of the great Northwest, we do hereby

Leland, It appears, came to town
In the afternoon Uaturday, and nut un
at the Mulkey boarding bouse on Wil
lamette street where fat got bis din

store of Paine Kay aid asked Mr
Paine for a blank nheok on the First
National Bank. He was glveu one,
then sat down at the disk and wrote
out a check. Aa he went out be
bought a knife and paid for It; but
soon returned and wanted to buy pit-
ton, tnotguns or anything If ha could
get some money on his cheek, but Mr
Paine refused tbe would-be forger. He
went Into almost every store on tbe
west side of Willamette street trying
to buy with his obeok. He Anally re
turned to Molkey's boarding bouse

on the check called for t41.86, but the
writing said 140.86, However Mr
Mulkey did not notice the inconsis
tency until the next morning.
