Food and Dairy Commissioner Bailey Will Soon Begin Roundup ot Dealers. The Evening Telegram says: Bute Food and Dairy Comiesioner J W Bailey proposes soon to make a roundup ot dealers in spices who have not oomplied with the pro vision ol the new pure-food law re quiring the proper labeling of Im itations and adulterations, Deal ers bave been notified of the requirements of the law and given ample time In which to comply with them. All spioes found not properly labeled will be oonfisoated Manufacturers of spioes admit that the adulterations of epicet with harmless ingredients by reason of the fierce competition has beoami a necessity. While the law per mits of the sale of suoh aduteraloc' produota, it requires that ever) paokage shall bear a label glvin, the ingredients and the peroentngr of each. Other matters oooupying the time and attention of the food and dairy commissioner just now arc vinegar and cheese. Cheese is giv ing lees' trouble than vinegar, bu . there are some manufacturers who are Inolinod to misrepresent their produot. OREGON TROUT LAW. As few sportsmen have a copy of tbe Oregon game laws, and as these laws cover so many pages that few care to searoh them thoroughly, the Oregon Fish and Game Association has had a brief synopsis of tbe laws in regard to trout-fishing printed on oloth to be placarded In every section of this state for the informa tion of tbe public These read: It it unlawful, under penalty by fine of not less than (20 nor more than $100, or by imprisonment in the county jail, or by both fine and Imprisonment To fish for any trout by -any means whatever, exoept with hook and line. Warning is given that any person violating Bny of tbe foregoing pro vialons will be proiecuttd accord ing to law. A Nevada editor says he "hates a hypocrite" and adds: "There are a ftiw hypocritical scoundrels in this tiwn who will go in at the back door of a saloon and In at tbe Iront door of a meeting house that are as turetogotoh as a dime will huy a ginger cake.
