Food and Dairy Commissioner
Bailey Will Soon Begin
Roundup ot Dealers.
The Evening Telegram says:
Bute Food and Dairy Comiesioner
J W Bailey proposes soon to make
a roundup ot dealers in spices who
have not oomplied with the pro
vision ol the new pure-food law re
quiring the proper labeling of Im
itations and adulterations, Deal
ers bave been notified of the
requirements of the law and given
ample time In which to comply
with them. All spioes found not
properly labeled will be oonfisoated
Manufacturers of spioes admit
that the adulterations of epicet
with harmless ingredients by reason
of the fierce competition has beoami
a necessity. While the law per
mits of the sale of suoh aduteraloc'
produota, it requires that ever)
paokage shall bear a label glvin,
the ingredients and the peroentngr
of each.
Other matters oooupying the
time and attention of the food and
dairy commissioner just now arc
vinegar and cheese. Cheese is giv
ing lees' trouble than vinegar, bu .
there are some manufacturers who
are Inolinod to misrepresent their
produot.
OREGON TROUT LAW.
As few sportsmen have a copy of

A Nevada editor says he "hates a
hypocrite" and adds: "There are a
ftiw hypocritical scoundrels in this
tiwn who will go in at the back
door of a saloon and In at tbe Iront
