The New Pump and Motive Power
Being Used.
The Eugene Water Company has lie
new pump in position and it Is being
operated by the new water wheel
placed under the factory of George
Midgley. The power Is transmitted
by means of a steel oable 1100 feet long,
whloh is carried to a tower near the
Southern Pacific track and from there
to the pumping station. The pump is
a Gould's triplet power and has a
oapaoity of 30,000 gallons per hour and
can be operated with ease under the
new system as long as desired.
Superintendent McMurphey states
that during June thedaily average con-
umptlon of water Is about lou.ouu
gallons, but that during July aua
August when so much water Is used
for the purpose of irrigating lawns me
daiiy average will exceed 400,000 gal
lons. Under the present Bystem water
Is not pumped as rapidly as It was
with steam power, whore cost of opera
tion bad to be more closely considered.
Then water was pumped In about
three hours sufficient for a day's use,
now seven or eight hours will be taken.

continues to satisfactorily fill his
position.

of the suit and the cause thereof:
"Omaha, Neb, June 10. Widow
Jane Mlctue has riled a suit In the
district court against Bishop Mclnturff
of Spokane, Wash, charging him ob
taining 800 of her money under lalse
pretenses. The widow's allegations
are somewhat sensational. Mclnturll
borrowed the money last winter when
be was here for a month helping Rev

two pastors combined their churches
under the name of tbe People's United
church and Mcluturfl returned to
Spokane, where his congregation
elected him a bishop.
Mclnturff returned to Ouialio Fri

restore her money lo her and to answer
the direct and uneaulvocal charge of

first got her to put up $100 as a tithe of

paid her by an insurance company,
"Then the bishop called upon her

this place will have good roads after

taken out west of Long Tom and la
now at work under tbe supervision of
Overseer Jeff Cox.
The road west, of the bridge and
on out toward Oliver May's will be
graded and graveled. Tbe people out
there are anxious for good roads and
will donate considerable work above
their assessment."
