The heaviest fnll of snow that ever took place In England occurred In 1015. The snow commenced falling on the 10th of January, 10ir, nnd continued every day until the 12th of Mnreh fol lowing. It covered the earth to such a deoth that passengers, both horse and foot, passed over gates, hedges and walls, which had been obliterated by the white sheet. On the 12th of March It began to decrease and so by little nnd little consumed and wasted away till the 28th of May, for then all the heaps aud drifts had disappeared ex cept ono upon Kinder scout, which lay until Whltsun week. A heavy fall occurred in Scotland in 1020, the snow falling 13 days and nights with little or no Intermission. Upon examination of roof on Central building we found that with little expense it could be made to do for two or three yrars to come. We also failed to paint (he Central on account of the scarcity of funds. This, with some other Improvements might have been made by borrowing tbe $500 autborl.ed at last annual meeting, but we decided it liett not to Increase tbe Indebtedness of tbe dls(riot. The $4000 iudebledness we have funded at 6 per cent Interest, Instead of 8 per oentas heretofore. On account of the lower valuation of all real eBtate and Improvements in the district, there will be between $1200 and $1300 lesa from the county fund than last year, while the special tax will be upon (he same low valuation. We have, therefore, bad lo ask for 4 mills instead of 3 to make good (his deficiency. With thin additional tux it will not he possible to make any improvements or uud any additional grades to me High school, as many think necessary. The High school occupies the old courthouse, which we have leased at $10 per month, or $120 per year. This lease Is for one year, with a privilege of three years. While this Is not all that could be desired, eithtr as to building or location, yet It was tbe beat we could do, and we are of the opinlou It is best to continue the ue of this building for this purpose until the district Is in betttrcondltlon flnan c'aliy than at present. The schools are quite destitute of ap paratus, nothing of this character bay ing been purchased for several years excepting a few articles for the primary grades. There ought to be expended $100 or $150 for globes, charts, etc., to bring our schools up to the efficiency of other schools throughout the state.
