Soundings are to to be made in front of tlio Ninth-street dock, In that city, to asceitaln if there is over 40 feet of water there, as Is generally believed, t he olalm is set up that if the Ninth-street wharf cau be utilized for this purpose, tho bunkers would be much moro convenient, aud steamers could be coaled there exped itiously aud cheaply.
