music aud addresses patriotic in char.

'It is not Keuerally known that
Marion is keeping one indigent person
in an Infirmary near Eugene, Lane
county, kept by Dr Benjamin Frank
lin Kussell, M D, for U a week. She
ia boarded, lodged, treated aud cared
for bv Dr Bussell for that sum, he
uruislilng everylhiug.
"Mrs McDonald Is addicted to opium
in its different forms, and the doctor
thinks she will undoubtedly become
demented If she does not slop the use
of it. (The bill lor her dope should be
cliargtd to the doctor who got her In
the way of using It.)
"Dr Kussell writes to the Marion
county court: 'I would also slat, to ye
honorable body that If you have any
other cases female or male, diseased or
not diseased, crippled or not crippled,
I will taKe tnem at 3 per week and do
for Marion county as I have for Laue
county.'
"Dr Kussell Is devoting his time to
the poor, and says he believes lie can
benefit the county, the patients and
himself, aud Includes in the service he
offers all expenses or burial in cose of
death.
"The couuty court is impressed with
the buslneps like proposition contained
in Dr Russell's letter. The cost of
kefping the poor at the Marion couuty
poor house Is $2 ! for board and
lodging, medical attendance and
hospital bills being extra when re
quired. The county court Is trying to
evolve a plan lo trade off the present
poor house property at Salem and get
a farm in the country where there
would be work for the well and en in
tlrmary, run like the one in I-ane
county for a nominal expense. I here
is a chance for some enterprising medi
cal mm to make Marion county a
proposition like th one made by Dr
Rnisell, of Eugene."

' The bride is a native daughter,
talented and charming, and will be re-
ceivid with pleasure in Eugene society
circles.
The groom ia at present county clerk
of Lane county and one of its most
popular and efficient officials. He Is
beiinr warmly congratulated by his
many friends.
Mr and Mrs Lee came to Eugene on
the 12:40 overland this morning, going
to their borne on Seventh stteet, which
had already been prepared for oc
cupancy. It should be said that the groom was
oueof a number of jolly bachelors living
at the Whiteaker House on Willamette

With the new appropriation it Is pro
posed to mako minor repairs to the
wharf at the shore end of the north
jetty tramway, and to tho tramway
itself, which were rendered necessary
by storms. Tho north jetty tramway
is to be extended for a distance of
about 600 feet, and the north jetty for
an equal distance, by dumping rubble
stone from the tramway. This work
duiing the coming fiscal year will cost
about $30,000, aud will be done by con
tract. Specifications are now being
prepared, and will soon be submitted
to the chief of engineers for approval;
the project Itself having nlteady beeu
approved.
