Clayton Erb. the truzted lieutenant and confidential of Israel W. Durham, formerly leader of the Republican organiza tion. is the sensation of the city. Erb vas shot dead by his sister-in-law, grs Beisel, during a quarrel over do mestic affairs. Captain Erb and wife have hail (onsiderable trouble, each accusing the other of unbecoming conduct, and matters had reached the courts, with prospects that sooner or later divorce proceedings would have been institute«! by one or the other. They continued to live at "Red Gables," the Erb country home. Mrs. Beisel is in jail and stated that she thought he was going to kill her. and that it was a case of who struck the first blow. It is said that Mrs. Katherine Beisel has repudiated the alleged confess! >n the polke say she made last night, in which she admitted having killed her brother-in-law.
