COLONEL ERB KILL
Philadelphia. Oct. 7.—The killing

of Israel W. Durham, formerly
leader of the Republican organiza
tion. is the sensation of the city. Erb
vas shot dead by his sister-in-law,
grs Beisel, during a quarrel over do
mestic affairs.
Captain Erb and wife have hail
(onsiderable trouble, each accusing
the other of unbecoming conduct,
and matters had reached the courts,
with prospects that sooner or later
divorce proceedings would have been
institute«! by one or the other. They
continued to live at "Red Gables,"
the Erb country home.
Mrs. Beisel is in jail and stated
that she thought he was going to kill
her. and that it was a case of who
struck the first blow. She fired at
him six times, four bullets striking
him and two entering the walls.

attorney of Delaware county, It has
been deemed necessary to order the
arrest of Mrs. Clayton T. Erb. It is
said that Mrs. Katherine Beisel has
repudiated the alleged confess! >n the

brother-in-law. Mrs. Erb will be ar
rested as soon as she recovers her
composure.
