WORKONNATRON KLAMATH FALLS ROAD AUTHORIZED Klamath Kails, .May 13.—The Her ald has received information to the effect that Chief Engineer Hood has given out the statement that the Na- tron-Klamath Kails branch of the Oregon Eastern railroad Is under au thorized construction. This means that construction work will be com menced Just as soon as contracts can be let for the same. Mr. Hood's or der was given out May 4th, and it means that the board of directors has set aside sufficient funds for the construction of the roau. Mr Hood Informed the Portland officials of tho action taken, and It now devolves upon them to get things to going, and it is supposed that there will now be >i general advance all along the line. The information comes to the Herald through J. R Horning, who is in Portland. In his letter Mr. Horning states that he Is informed by an of ficial well up along the line thnt the road will be built within the next IS months, and that the Southern Pacific Is devoting a great deal of en ergy toward Klamath Kulls. The local Southern Pacific offi cials have received no notice relative to work being commenced upon the Natron branch. but Inasmuch as their work Is entirely separate from that is Is not likely that they would lie informed of anything in connec tion therewith through an- official source. They are connected solely Northeastern, with the California the Natron- which connects with Klamath Kails branch of the Oregon Eastern a few miles north of this place. Corning at this particular time this Is indeed encouraging news, for It was feared that the line could not bi* built for several years to come. FRANK 0. I I “Buster and Tige The Impressive service of the Wo man's Relief Corps on Memorial Day of "casting flowers upon the waters" as a tribute to the "sailor dead” has attracted much attention, and in an swer to many inquiries regarding Its origin I will quote from the address of the national president of the Wo- man’s Rellef Corps, given at the na- tlonal conventlon in Minneapolis, Minnesota, August 1 and 17. 1906: "That this credit may lie given to one who, in her loving remembrance of all who gave their lives as sacri fices In the battle for freedom, did not forget 'those who sentinel rhe sea,’ 1 wish to say that ft was through the Instrumentality of Mrs. A. S. C. Forbes, of Los Ang-des, Cal., that this service was formulated and exemplified, in her own department. In Cleveland, Ohio, in 1901, the na tional convention endorsed a recom mendation making the custom one of national observance by the Wo man's Relief Corps Krom this rec ognition of Mrs. Forbes’ beautiful sentiment has come the authorized service of our order.” ALICE PHETTEPLACE, Press Correspondent, W.
