KILLED BY FARMER GOSSER EXPLOSION ASKS DAMAGES OF DYNAMITE FOR ASSAULT Special to Daily Guard Cottage Grove, Sept. 28—Charles C. Rutan, aged about 35 years,was killed by the accidental explosion of dyna mite in the Bohemia mining district yesterday afternoon. He was doing assessment work on George Long's mine on Elephant mountain and was kneeling, holding a stick of dynamite in his left hand, trying to insert a cap and fuse. The explosion came suddenly and without warning and shattered Rotan's left arm and leg and injured him interually. lb- was carried to the Mustek mine, where medical aid was administered, but he died about two hours afterward. He retained consciousness up to a short time Itefore his death. Several men working with Rutan, including Wm. Reed, had a narrow escape, as they were within a few feet of him, but they were practically un injured.
