Ac cording to reports which I have readied this city, terrible heat ifl prevailing in the Inyo County gold tieliU and adjacent decrt, and prospectors re dying daily from the effect. W. II. Adams, a min ing engineer, who left Los Angtdes Jsly C, for the Panainint Range, and who has just returned lo the city, states thai eight prospectors were brought in dead trom the heat while he was in the region. Dur ing his stay at Panamiut, six bod ies were brought theie, all victims of sunstroke. The heat, he says, is terrible and unabated day or night. At Bal laral, he relates, the thermometer registered 135 at noon and at mid night following had dropped to but llu' degrees, which was the av erage for three days.
