Mrs. Kate Sharp died nt her home in Missouri recently. She was a former kIiouI girl of this city, her maideti name being Miss Kate Clodfelter. Ora and Clarence Clodfelter are her brothers. Mr. and Mrs. 0. V. Strong, of Ceutralia, Waehjjer: visiting with Mrs. Strong' paren8, I. Connett, a few days' last week. Mr. Strong returned home Tuesday. Mr. Strong will remain a few wet ks. JIiss Leona Kvan ami Miss (Srace Damon, two of Salem s jxipular telephone young ladies, were in the city last Friday eve ning and incidentally attended the dancing party at the Opera house. Two telephone soIicito'S have been in this, field endeavoring to secure a sufficient number for an all night service. Several new 'phones have been secured, but not a sufficient number to justify the change to a continuous service. The band concert last Friday evening vas a pronounced success. Every number was greatly enjoyed by the audience present which manifested its appreciation by re peated round" of applause. The concert wsb followed by a dance both were well patronized. The new church building of the First Presbyterian church of Aberdeen, Wash , was formally dedicated hist week by Dr, Thomp son, of Independence. The sermon preached by Dr. Thompson was highly complimented by the Press, of A herdeen, Wash. The ladies of the Presbyterian church are preparing a "Handker chief sale." More extended notice will appear later. Tho Chrysanthemum Fair parsed off very pleasantly and financially profitable to its pro moters. Excellent -literary and musical programs were rendered both evnings. Good attendance was in evidence each evening. Preaching at the Baptist church next Sunday at 11 o'clock A.M. and also the 1st Sunday in Deo, at the same hour, by pas'or. He will preach in tiie evening of both these days at Monmouth. A cordial welcome is extended to all our ser vices. The boys of Independence and Monmouth played thoir return game at Independence on 1 hanks giving. The score wa-i 21 to noth ing in favor of Independence. The bright particular star of the game was Paul Rusk, the Independence fullback. C to 0 was the score of the foot ball game between tho Willamette University and the Monmouth Nor mal on Thanksgiving. Although defeated Monmouth put up a good game and several times made long runs that took the ball dangerously near their opponents' goal.
