Ou Saturday a beautiful little bird flew into the building and took his seat upon the linotype machine as if very much Interested in how to make a news paper. We do not know If fie bird kingdom has learned how kind the Enterprise force Is or not but, although we all went up to within a few feet of the machine, he did not move until the operator went to work We greatly enjoyed this Pleasant call Ernest Zlelesch brought in from his big farm, on Saturday, some alfalfa which had been sown only forty day and measured over 24 inches in length. What do you think of that? This Is truly a great country. The next ten years will open the eyes of many as to what can be done here. This country Is only in its Infancy as to its development. Let us get and keep out of ruts. Some people think nothing but oats and wheat will grow here because they nave never grown any thing else. Major Mclndoe, who is in charge of all the government works in the district of Willamette, which takes in the Columbia, Snake and all tri butary rivers, came up this week to the government dredger now working in the river between Salem and Inde pendence, for the purpose of Inspect ing the work. Thompson, at Portland jewel er, with his wife and daughter, have been on quite a trip to Cascadia and other points. They are spending a few days in this city at the homee of C. O. Long, Mr. Thompson's brother in law. They are full of praise for the minora: springs at Cascadia, and say tint it would be hard to find a plat e betti r for an outing. The place is not ou;y good but cheap. Mr. A. M. Brown, our accomodating ( and hustling second hand man, drove out on Sunday to the fine farm of Hanna Bros, just north of Monmouth.; He is very much enthused over the farm and the fine stock, and says it is one of the very best he has ever seen. They have everything in fine s iape and are now working about 15 men. Such a place gives a boost to ha whore country. These industrious young men are doing great things be cause they themselves are not afraid to go ahead. They have learned how to turn defeat into victory. They have dona much and will do greater things. If Dr. Lowe did not have the ab'ility to relieve the heal aches and othtr nervous disturbances that often re sult from eye strain he would not call your attention to these distress ing subjects. His glasses are not "cure alls" they simply relieve eye s'rain. If the troubles mentioned are due to eye strain they cease. If It is a matter or meaicme lne win seiiu you in haste to a physician. Dr. Lowe has worked too long to give satis faction to wipe out all he has gained for temporary profit. Leonard, who lives six miles south of Independence, was in on Saturday and gave the Enterprise office a pleasant call. Mr. Leonard is surely a, hustler of the old time kind. He had always lived in the city un til a year ago, when, becoming weary of the grind, he bought this farm on which he now lives, the land is very fine but had no buildings on it. He lived in a tent and went at it wi i all his might, to get a home. He built him a good seven roomed house, a comfortable barn and all kinds of out houses; he had cut some 500 cords of i wood and himsslf hauled it to Inde pendence and Monmouth. This year his crops are fine and he will make at least 75 tons of hay. Amid it all the best thing is that he and his fam ily are content and happy on the farr We congratulate this earnest young man and wish we had hundreds more like him on this fine land.
