The life is conducive to study and deeo thinking, he declares. He says his second wife was able to go to the country confident that he would not get into mischief. Says Perry, "I should advise every young man who wishes to go through a course of home study, and finds it im possible under his present conditions to get in contempt of court and be sent tothls jail for six months or a year." Contrary to rumors set going in Independence, Mrs. E. T. Hinkle de sires the people to know that she will still do dressmaking at the stand of Hinkle & Earhart. The postoffice is in the way, other wise we would now be in the build ing with our new stock of standard Staple and fancy groceries. However we are still doing business at the old stand but expe:t to move as soon as the postoft.ee gets permission to oc cupy th?lr new quarters. Moore's Cash Store. A Big Real Estate Deal. A Mr. Hughes of Portland has pur chased the large ranch of J. S. Coop er, north of Dallas. The price paid is said to have been $65 per acre and the deal was put through by Clint Monroe, a prominent real estate deal er of Portland. This is one of the largest deals made lately, the valua tion figuring up some $40,000.. ' Good Crops This Year. Mr. Stewart, a farmer who has a farm about ten miles south of Inde pendence, on the Luckiamute, was in town last Saturday on his way to Sa lem, where he wa3 going on a trad ing expedition. He says that crops in Irs vicinity were excellent this .season and everyone is happy over the results of last season's work. Mr. Stswart has about 100 acres nearly one-fourth of which is in cultiva tion. W. Newton, who for the past three years has been living on the Sloper place about a mile south of town, has purchased the Long meat market and will take charge of the same, October 10. The shop will be closed from October 1 until the 10, in order to give the new proprietor an opportunity to give it a general overhauling. It will be renovated, re modeled and repainted and when fin ished will be one of the nicest meat markets in the country.
