According to Roland Hinton Perry,
the well-known sculptor, who was re
cently released from Ludlow street
jail in Brooklyn after serving a six
months' term for contempt of court in
refusing to pay alimony to his wife,

A Big Real Estate Deal.
A Mr. Hughes of Portland has pur
chased the large ranch of J. S. Coop
er, north of Dallas. The price paid
is said to have been $65 per acre and
the deal was put through by Clint
Monroe, a prominent real estate deal
er of Portland. This is one of the
largest deals made lately, the valua
tion figuring up some $40,000..

Mr. Stewart, a farmer who has a
farm about ten miles south of Inde
pendence, on the Luckiamute, was in
town last Saturday on his way to Sa
lem, where he wa3 going on a trad

The National Mohair Growers AS-
W. W. Newton, who for the past
three years has been living on the
Sloper place about a mile south of
town, has purchased the Long meat
market and will take charge of the
same, October 10. The shop will be
closed from October 1 until the 10,
in order to give the new proprietor
an opportunity to give it a general
overhauling. It will be renovated, re
modeled and repainted and when fin
ished will be one of the nicest meat
markets in the country.
