They say that it is an ill wind that blows nobody good. That seems to be true in connection with the recent period o f unusually high water because, according to a report o f Engineer J. C. McLeod, who was in Corvallis yesterday, the State highway north o f Corvallis between the Benton county line and Mon mouth is still intact. It was stated that the Luckiamute was a treacherous stream which rose rapidly and would unquestionably make the highway between hire and Monmouth impassible much of the time in winter. The recent demon stration of extremely high water in dicates that this fear is groundless. Mr. McLeod says that when the h'ghway is completed the addition o f two or three inches o f gravel and seven inches o f concrete will place this road practically beyond any fear o f its ever becoming impassible un- /p less there should come a higher spell 'A o f water than this through which we have just passed. Another ad vantage which the Luckiamute has over many other streams is the fact that the water disappears very rap idly so that even should traffic be stopped by higher water than we just had, the chances are that it would not be for a very long per iod.— Corvallis Gazette-Times.
