SOME OREGON WONDERS Truthful .Tales That Testify .To .The ' Thrift of Thing ' : '' For some time Editor David N. Mob seseohn, of the Chamber ot Commerce' Bulletin, has been engaged In the col lection of Oregon farm facts of what he calls "BrotyJingnaglan proportions," which means In his case such news matters pertaining to the raising of fruit and vegetables as are out of the ordinary, especially as to size. He oontends that Oregon has raised the largest onions, potatoes, radishes, turnips and the grain yields cannot be equaled by any other portion of the globe. He does not confine himself to the mere announcement of the biggest turnip, but seeks to secure the odd cir cumstances of rural life and to make them known to the public at large. Here are some of the latest wonderful things In Oregon:" A woman of Portland, has nine full- blooded Buff Orpington pullets that ioi 15r eeirn between March 6 and March 20, an average of nine and two fifths eees per day. ; A crop of wheat sown near Sheridan in September was harvested December 29. - Sunnyslde. near Milton, produced luscious strawberries for both Christ mas and New Years. . . Grain was looking exceedingly well in Benton County, January 14. From the quantity of roses now in bloom In many of the yards through out the city, It would not be difficult for Corvallas to hold a midwinter rose carnival. Full-blown roses and dainty buds may be seen In profusion. A larea cactus Is in full bloom in Jacksonville. Eugene boasts of roses and chrysan ii,in.nmi Hil hloooming out in the ODen: grapes and raspberries, ripe and luscious, still on the bushes; volunteer second crop new potatoes being dug and eaten on Christmas day, with buds swelling and trees leaving out, with lawns as green as during the summer. A woman nicked ripe raspberries on January 4 from her garden In Lafay ette. Fresh raspberries were numerous up till last week around Sheridan. SHERIDAN PAVES STREETS Next Enterprise of Town Will Building City Hall. Be SHERIDAN, April IB. The city council has voted to bond the city for paving, and the work Is being pushed to the fullest In laying 14 blocks. The nnnir-a,. cnlla for the completion of the work by early summer, and when completed Sheridan will have the fin est Btreets In the valley. The paving Is of concrete and the work Is being done under G. E. Gross, a local contractor. Bridge and Main streets will be paved entirely, and the adjoining side streets will receive a portion of the Improvement. In the past three months there has been coBlderable mlvprse comment on the condition of Sheridan's main thoroughfares, and unsigned and anonymous letters In the local paper deploring the condition of the streets have awakened the citizens to action. In addition to the big contract for paving, Sheridan Is to have a new city hall. HEN MOTHER TO SIX PIGS Sow OonvcrtM Kirns Into Fork and Chicken Gets Kovcngo. PILOT ROCK, Or., April 14. A hen mothering a litter of six wee pigs is the unusual spectacle to be witnessed on the Irrigation farm of William II. Kvans. Just south of town. The hen had made her nest in the pigpen tilled It with eggs and started to setting before It was discovered by an old sow, who converted the eggs into pork. Though her nest hnd been destroyed the hen's mother Instinct remained, so she adopted the sow s litter of pigs. During the day she follows them about, as they pay little attention to her and follow the mother pig until evening, Thpn It is that the hen calls the young porkers to her and hovers them with her wings. Just as she would little chickens. Tim ulna seem to appreciate the downy couch thus afforded them, re mnlning iind r the wings throughout the night -rnfcMlnml Frost Fighter, MEDFOHO. April 16. Since Monday morning the temperature has been anxiously watched. LOGAN BERRIES POPULAR Eastern Canners Ask Eugene tuii- growers for Quotations EUGENE, April 14. The inquiries say that wher ever the loganberries have been intro duced their peculiar and novel flavor has won them immediate attention particularly when made up into pies. Quotations are asked both for canned and dried berries. Hitherto the market for loganberries has been restricted, owing to the fact that they are a new fruit and are not widely known. As high as ten tons to the acre has been produced on good bottom land near Eugene, and the crop at present nets the grower about cents per pound. I had acute pains throughout my body and often my back was so weak and stiff that I could not stoop. My kid neys were also disordered and too fre quent passages of the kidney secretions caused me to arise many times at night. My limbs became badly swol len and there was a pufflness beneath my eyes.
