We have learned with regret of the death of Professor Caldwell's mother, and knowing the significance of this .-.eineinenr, we as faculty and stu dents of Dallas College, hereby ex press our heart-felt sympathy with mm in this his deep sorrow. Resolved that a copy of these reso lutions be given to Professor Caldwell, and one furnished the Polk County Observer for publication. COMMITTEE. Thrilling Experience. W. H. Livingston had quite a thrill ing experience while fording the Littl Nestucca river above Meda" last Sun day. He was returning from Sheridan where he had gone to meet Mrs ,G. A, Campfleld of Cadlllas, Michigan, who was on her way to Oretown to visit her son, John Mather. Mr. Livingston was riding a horse ahead of a rig which was driven by Ole- Redberg and con tained Mrs. Campfield. When they reached the river Mr. Livingston got oft his horse to lead It across but when they got amidstream the current was so strong that it took the horse'ofT Its feet causing it to fall on Mr. Living ston, pinning him down in the water, After a few lunges the horse managed to get off of Mr. Livingston, but before he could regain his footing the current swept him down stream with such force as to turn his hip rubber boots inside out to the ankles. After going down the stream a short distance he managed to get hold of an overhang. ing limb which he clung to until re lieved by Mr. Redberg. Tillamook Herald. Pleasing Literary Program. A large crowd enjoyed the program given by the members of the Phila delphlan literary society of Dallas Col lege, Saturday night,. This was the first open meeting of the year, and the en couragement shown by friends of the college has stimulated the young men to still greater efforts to please In the meetings to be held before Spring. Mr. and Mrs. Charles McDevitt ar rived home last night from a several months' stay in San Francisco. They are enjoying the best of health and re port that they greatly enjoyed their long visit in the Golden Gate city. Their many friends are glad to bid them "Welcome Home." Kdltor Is Chosen. Mrs. Cooper has been in Los Angeles for several months and is slowly recov ering from the effects of injuries re ceived by a fall down the elevator shaft in the Imperial Hotel In Portland early last Summer.
