A. C. Robinson, who has been era-

pendence, the greatest stress of the
work of tax collection having abated
G. O. Hoi man reports the sale of six
10-acre traots of his property in Cooper
Hollow to parties from Portland and
Marlon County who will set them out
in fruit and nuts. The price paid was
$30 an acre.
Hon. W. C. Brown is reported to be
no better and the deepest solicitude is
felt concerning his condition. For
some time be has been practically
unoonscious and physicians regard
his condition as extremely critical,
A communication from the Southern
Pacific Comnanv was read before the
City Council at its last meeting, in
which the company agreed: to attend
to the improving of that portion of
Church street actually occupied by its
track, by filling In from end to end of
the ties with a good quality of gravel.
This will greatly reduce the cost of
macadamizing for property owners
along that street by limiting the
amount of surface over which it will
be necessary to spread the crushed
rock.

School Meetintr Called.
The clerk of the School Board has
called a special school meoting to be
held in the Courthouse, Wednesday,
May 19. The failure of the recent
bond election to carry, leaves the dis
trict still confronted by the problem of
scanty schoolroom and the object of
this meeting is to bring the people
tncether for a treneral discussion of
methods by which the problem may
be solved. It is the desire of the
school board that as large an attend
ance as possible may be present so
that the matter may be thoroughly
placed before thevoters of the district.
One at the Imnnrtant events in
the Methodist church work for the
Eugeue District, is the annual con
vention of the Euworth League which
will begin in this city today and close

to serve on the Federal grand jury at
the May term which will open in ron
land, Monday.
The American Druggist Syndicate,
Incorporated for $50,000 with R. E.
Williams, as president, Tys Wigman,
of Forest Grove, vice-president, and
G. N. Cherrington, secretary and
treasurer, filed its articles of incorpor
ation with the Secretary or State in
Salem today.
The new company will be established
in Portland, where it will conduct a
strictly wholesale drug business.
Messrs. Williams, Wigman and uner
rlngton went to Portland yesterday
morning for the purpose of selecting
and securing a location and arrang
ing other preliminaries.
Mr. Cberrington'sdrug store in this
city was purchased Wednesday by
W. V. Fuller, who tooK possession
yesterday. The work of invoiolng the
stock will probably be begun Sunday.
Bidding for the purchase or tne estaD-
lishment was close between a number
of business men. both of Dallas and
from other cities and It Is conceded
that In his transaction Mr. Fuller has
secured one of the most desirable
businesses of its kind to be found In
the state.
Mr. Cherrington entered the drug
business in Dallas about eight years
ago. in partnership with (Jharies JJ.
Belt. After Mr. Belt's death in 1906,
he conducted the business alone and
about two years ago, purchased full
control. The old firm name, Belt &
Cherrington was retained however,
until Wednesday's sale, when the
establishment passed finally out of
Mr. Cherrington s bands.
The development of this business m
Dallas during the past eight years
has been little short of marvellous
and vastly to the credit of its pro
prietor as a man or executive ana
business ability.
Beginning in a small building with
only a limited and modest equipment,
be developed the business rapidly ana
surely. When the new brick building
was erected by Abel Uglow, the drug
store of Belt & Cherrington was moved
into relatively the same position which
bad been occupied by its little wooden
building prior to the founding or tne
new briek structure, and the firm con
tinued its business In new quarters
and with better equipment. At the
time of the transfer from Mr. uner-
rington's possession to Mr. Fuller, the
Belt & Cherrington Drugstore was
regarded throughout the state as one
of the finest and most up-to-date
establishments to be found outside of
Portland.
His successor in the business Is too
well-known in Dallas to need Intro
duction. A man of proven business
ability, there Is little doubt but that
the business will continue to prosper
under his management. Mr. uner-
rlngton will shortly move to rortiana
to make his borne. While his many
friends will sincerely regret the neces
sity which deprives Dallas or a man
who has always proven himself a
progressive and potent force In the
city's growth and development, all
will unite in wishing him the Desi oi
success in his newly chosen sphere of
activity.
