A coTmTioii wagon box will hold two tiers, thirty cakes of elcriit Inch lee. The capacity of this IielKMine Is forty tons, but of course any tlze could be built on the same plan, and a larger one would keep the Ice In a much bettor condition. A Homemade Mouse Trap. If you have got no cat and find Hie mice In your house getting altogether too bold for comfort, or If you would like lo keep some mice for pets, we can tell you how lo make a trap In which to catch them. Over the top of an earthenware jar fasten a piece of writing paper, tightly binding It with a string or elastic band. In the center of the paper cut a cross, as shown In the Illustration. Set the jar In the closet and suspend arm and arden STORING THE ICE CROP. Cutting the Cakes and Putting Them Away. The Ice season Is not over. In many sections of the country the crop Is now at Its best. The usefulness of Ice on the farm cannot be exagger ated. One who has made a business for fifteen years of storing Ice says that five years ago he remodeled his old Icehouse. A description of the re modeled structure follows: It Is 12 by 14 feet and 12 feet high on a two foot stone foundation. The studding Is oak. 2 feet 8 Inches, sheath ed on both sides and filled between H r-v. f I j a,p oriiamlllng it." For flie riiost econom ical results manure should be hauled direct from the barn as soon as ft Is made and scattered over the fields by means of a spreader. In this way, and In this way only, can the full value of manure be saved, provided, of course, enough bedding is used In the barn to nicely absorb all the liquid excre ment, the plant food of which amounts to nearly one-half of the total In the manure and liquid excrement. Carefully conducted experiments show that the manure produced per thousand pounds of live weight of the following clashes of farm animals is valued at from $25 to $iiO per head per year. The valuations given are as rollows: lor cows. uorses, sheep, $20; calves, $24: pigs, $00. This valuation takes into consideration only the actual amounts of nitrogen, phos- 1 phorus and potassium contained in the manure from these animals, valued in accordance wjth the present prices of these constituents In the form of com mercial manures or fertilizers. It does not take Into consideration the value of the manure as a human builder due to its large organic matter content. From this It should be plain to any one that the economical handling of farm manure is one of the very Im portant factors in maintaining the fer tility of our soils. Notice of Final Account. Notice in hereby (riven that the undersigned lias tiled her filial account and that Ihe County Court for folk Comity, Oregon, has appointed April :w. luou, at 9:30 o'clock a. m. aa the time of hearing objections thereto and the settle meat thereof. Xnili e in herehv eiven that the undersigned a administratrix of the estate of John W. MARY MARTIN, Administratrix of the estate of John W. Martin, deceased. Oscar Hayter, Attorney. Dated and lirst published March 23, I'm Executrix Notice. eern. that the undersigned baa this day been minoiiited executrix of the estate of William F. tiscott, deceased, by the Hon. County Court of ICEHOUSE BEMODEt.EI). with sawdust. From the studding a two Inch furring projects out with the siding on this, making an air space suflieicnlly large that the sides of the building are kept from becoming warm by the cool current which passed from the ground up and into the ice cham ber. A 12 by IS Inch blind at each ga ble permits a free circulation of air and is In my estimation better than a cupola, as there is more of a draft over the ice. There are double doors four feet wide extending from the foundation to the eaves. A 4 by 4 Inch scantling put In the peak for attaching a double pulley facilitates the handling of the ice. The man In the wagon sets the tongs In a cake, and another man in the doorway seizes It w ith Ills tongs ns it Is drawn up. In this nav nnlv three men are necessary at the build lug, one to unload and two to pa. k. Heni'atli the building a number eight Inch tiles nre set on end, with little piece of board over each. On the dirt floor are six int lies of sawdust. The rakes of Ice nre set on etlge, each tier being finished and covered with a lav cr of sawdust before another Is begun. It Is better not to have the cakes too close together, so that the Bawdust will sift down between. Sawdust Is better than cracked Ice to fill In with AS GOOD AS A CAT. by n string a piece of toasted cheese over the center of the jar. If there nre any mice In the closet the bait will attract them, but just as soon as the first mouse reaches the center of the paper he will drop Into the jar and the paper will fly back into place again, ready for the next comer. A trap ar ranged in the same manner can be used for the capture of field and har vest mice, which make odd and amus ing pets. A barrel covered with stiff brown paper can lie used for common rats, but they will gnaw out unless the barrel be partly fli:ed with write)'. I - - ! LOST FERTILITY C?r SOIL. A pile of manure that contained elements worth toAH after being exposed for live months was worth only i'j.n:;. Leaving manure In piles In the field Is nu antiquated method that should nev er be practiced for the reason that It results In fertilizing the spots wh-re the heaps lie too heavily. Where manure Is allowed to He In heaps on a field for a few weeks or a month It Is an Im possibility to spread It so as to get an even distribution of organic matter and of the elements of fertility.
