Our winter egg trade was mostly private, parties buying up our product and shipping to relatives and friends at a distance as well as using them at home. This style trade pays and saves trouble. Now, wben eggs get real cheap get rid of the mere layers, for In a short time they will not be payers. A great many buy the hover and heating parts to a brooder and build the house part themselves. The pipes have one- Prevention of Hog Cholera. Dr. J. W. Connoway of the Missouri expeiiment station at Columbia has discovered a serum for the prevention of hog cholera. The serum is In the form of a vaccine, and If It la injected Into the blood of a hog before It has become Infected with cholera the hog becomes immune to the disease. The serum was discovered through the fact that when a hog has once recov ered from an attack of cholera it Is proof against another attack, even if it is exposed to diseased hogs, for it has developed something in its blood which makes It proof against the dis ease. The serum nas been used on 1,500 hogs in different parts of t In state, and very few have developed cholera after being properly vacci nated, although exposed to the dis ease. The serum is kept In supply by the agricultural department of the University of Missouri and will be dis pensed free to the farmers of the state. The bordeaux mixture is the proper remedy to use for all fungous troubles viz, mildew and rust of beans, potato and tomato rot and leaf blight, melon and cucumber diseases, asparagus rust, celery leaf blight and rust, etc. The half strength mixture (two pounds copper sulphate, two pounds quick lime, fifty gallons water) Is strong enough to use In the vegetable garden except for potatoes.
