Gage, accompanied by her daughter, Maud, left yesterday for Eastern Oregon, where she will spend the summer on her farm near Mitchell. Bishop W. F. Hell, of Highland Park, Illinois, will proaoh in the Evangelical church in this city Thurs day night at 8 o'clock. All arj iuvited to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Whiteside went to Corvallls yesterday for a short visit at the home of his father, Sam uel Whiteside. A three year hop contract between Paul Hedges & D. Davidson and T. Rosenwald & Company for 16,000 pounds per year at 11 cents was filed with the county clerk yesterday. J. P. Byers has secured the position of manager of a sawmill in McMinn ville. He will go to McMinnville, Monday to tako up his work and will be followed by his family in about two months. Miss Pearl Uglow returned to South Bend, Washington, last week after an extended visit at the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Abel Uglow. She was accompanied by her sister, Mrs. W. H. Vaueh. who will remain with her in that city for about a month. DEFENSE FILES BRIEF Noted Hembree Murder Trial Will Soon Come Up For Trial in Supreme Court. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Nies returned Sunday night from Santa Barbara, California, where they have been visit- ine for several months with their daughter, Mrs. John Cosper. A fine new book case was installed in the Dallas Free Library, Saturday to accommodate the increasing num ber of volumes that are being added continually to the supply of literature which makes the institution the best emiinned of anv to be found in the smaller cities of the state. The 7-9 contingent of jolly people, who have been in Sheridan the past week, departed for home on Tuesday morning. Circuit Judge William Galloway came up from McMinnville yesterday morning and held a short session of Court in Department Number 2. Joseph Floria vs Ruth E Floria, divorce; Ed F Coad for plaintiff de fault testimony taken and decree granted as prayed for in complaint. Application of Frank Gibson to register title, W H Holmes attorney- Oscar Hayter appointed examiner of title. The appellant brief in the case of the State of Oregon vs A. J. Hembree, was filed Thursday with the clerk of the supreme court, containing the alleged faulty points in the great bulk of the testimony. Hembree was convicted before Judge McBride of murder in the third degree and was given an indefinite sentence of from one to 15 years in the peniten tiary. After serving one year ne was pardoned by Governor Chamberlain, but another charge, instigated by the residents of the Sand Lake vicinity, where the crime was alleged to have been committed, was brought against him.
