Cline, of Port land, are up for a visit at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Anne E. Farley. Eugene Smith is reported to be quite ill from an attack of lagrippe and is threatened with an attack of pneumonia. Mrs. Tom Stockwell and brother, Earl Shultz, will arrive in Dallas to night after an extended visit in California. Miss Haliie Reynolds was up from Portland over Sunday visiting at the home of of her mother, Mrs. W. I. Reynolds. Mr. and Mrs. George Gerlinger re turned Sunday from Portland, where be attended theTimberman's Conven tion, Saturday. Mr. aDd Mrs. W. J. Kaerth returned Sunday morning from Portland, where he had been attending the timberman's convention. A joint debate between the teams from the Ballston and Perrydale High Schools will be held in Balls- ton, Saturday, February, 27. Mr. and Mrs. B. Casey and son, Von, returned Friday from Wood burn, where they had gone to attend the funeral of Mr. Casey's mother. A number of students from Dallas College accompanied the basketball team to Salem, Saturday, where It played against Willamette University. Gus Mublig was up from Portland over Sunday bringing with bim his little daughter, Loraiue, whom he will leave lu the care of Mr. and Mrs. C. 0. Tennis. Mrs. Alice Dempsey returned Sun day night from a visit in Portland. She was .accompanied home by her son, Claude, who returned to Portland yesterday. Dr. C. A. Mock went to Portland, Saturday where he attended the cere mony of laying the corner stone of Rev. A. A. Winter's church which is being erected in the Ladd Addition in Portland. F. H. Pepper went to Portland this afternoon, where he will make his home in future. He will leave his ice factory under the management of A. W. Brown. U I. Ballard was up from Rlck reall, Saturday to attend a business meeting of one of the committees of the Poultry Association, of which he Is president. Principal R. R. Hill desires to an nounce that pupils may be entered in the primary department of the Dallas PublicSchool only during the remain der of the present week. W. I. Ford went to McMinnville, Friday and acted as referee in the basketball game between the Multno raatTAthletio Club and McMinnville College, in which the former team was victorious. Mrs. W. R. Coulter visited Sunday at the home of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Coulter, while enroute from Baker Citv to Monmouth, where she and her husband will make their home in future. A. A. Kerr, an employee of the Willamette Valley Lumber company. was caught under a falling lumber pile this morning and his left leg broken near the unkle. He will be unable to resume his work for some time. Mrs. F. S. Ramsey and ber son and daughter left today for Los Angeles, where they will make their home in the future. Mr. Ramsey will remain in Dallas for a few days to wind up his business affairs before starting south. Michael Smith, of Zena, died in Hood Rivar, Thursday, February 18. The body was brought to Zena, Satur day, and funeral services held in the Zena church at 2 o'clock p. m., the remains being interred in the church cemetery. The Williams Jubilee Singers, who have appeared successfully in Dallas a number or times during the past few years, will give an entertainment at the Armory, Saturday, March 13, under the auspices of the Dallas Pub lic School. The Dallas skating team was de feated in a basketball game in Cor- vallls, Friday night by a score of 15 to 7. Two of the Dallas players were unable to go with the team on that date and it was necessary to play substitutes in their places. The snow has almost left the moun tains in the immediate vicinity of Falls City and Black Rock and the logging camps and mills have re sumed work with a fair prospect of being able to continue in steady oper ation from now on. The preliminary try-out for the state oratorical contest to be given by the Intercollegiate Prohibition Associa tion was held in the chapel at Dallas College this morning. Elmer Barn hart and Harry Crltchlow were the only entries, first place being awarded to the former, although the decision was quite close. Mr. Barnhart will represent Dallas College in the state contest to be held some time in April. Crider enter tained a number of their friends at their home Saturday night in celebra tion of the twentieth anniversary of their wedding day. The evening was spent in playing 500, ten tables being prepared to ac commodate the guests. O. E. Williams won the gentlmen's prize, a leather card case containing two packs of fine cards, and Mrs. T. A. Riggs received a beautiful cut glass dish, the ladies first prize. Circuit Judge William Galloway held a short session of court In De partment Number 2 this morning, coming up from McMinnville on the 11 o'clock train and returning on the afternoon train.
