DALLAS, OREGON, January X, 1909 The way to build up Dallas is to pat ronise Dallas people. If it be true- that the "trial of our faith worketb putience" those Kepnb licana in Oregon who hava ardently pinDed their faith on the political efficacy of the Statement, will have nix years' opportunity for patience to get in "her perfect work." If seiamic disturbances continue to occur as frequently and at such un expected places as they have during the past month, the airship companies which are rapidly springing into existence like mushrooms in all of the larger cities of the United States, should have little trouble in disposing of their stock. A state veterinarian at an annual salary of $2000 is provided for in a bill introduced by Representative ; Hawley. The purpose of the bill is to guard against and eradicate all dan gerous and infectious di-seases in cattle and other stock in the state, pro vide a method of controlling the treat-' I tnent and cure of these diseases and furnish penalties for the violation of , the law. It is provided toat the gov- j ernor shall appoint a state veterina- i rian, who shall be a graduate of a ; veterinary college and shall be recom- j mended to the governor by the slate ; board of health. The oflieial shall re- j ceive a salary oi fsyjn annually ana 1 1 traveling expenses not to exceed $1."'.I0. j He shall qualify with a bond of JlwO. If necessary for the transaction of I the business of the office or durincj epidemics or other unusual conditions making the work of the office heavy, j the state office may appoint a county j deputy, who shall receive not more i than $fi00 a year. Stock afflicted with ! dangerous or incurable diseases may be killed upon the order of the state i veterinarian. j The saleor transferor diseased -tvek . la punishable by a fine of from iv to j $500; failure to report diseased stock is punishable by a like fine, aiid vio lation of quarantine is also under a similar penalty. For the purposes of carrying out the provisions of the bill an appropri ation of 0000 is made for the two years, while it is provided that ?:i5"0 shall be appropriated annually after the expiration of two years, to main tain the office. Oregon Legislature requires hotels to use sheets 9 feet long and there are only 9 Jul lL. JLL jb. ti at the Dallas Mercantile Company's Store Proverb hath said that the "age of chivalry is past." N'ot so with some of the relics of barbarism, as one is forced with reluctance to believe, when in the dead of night, upon the streets of an up-to-date, twentieth century town, he hears the sounds of bucolic revelry which proclaim the presence of the younger citizenship indulging in the refined and delicate witticisms of the charivari. COURT HOUSE NOTES Items of Interest From the Records in the County Offices Briefly Told. The protests voiced by a certain number of legislators when they cast their votes for Chamberlain, failed utterly in their purpose if that pur pose was to gain either sympathy, justification or admiration.
