Miss Pauline Turner and Roy Hol man returned to their home in McMinnville yesterday after a week's visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Shultz. The Teddy Bear Jubilee Singers will be at the Star Theater next week giv ing a fine performance in addition to the regular program, but the admis sion price remains the same as ever 10 cents. Adrian Von Plank, who was fatally shot Tuesday, by Newton Black, a teamster in Bakersfleld, California, was a resident of Dallas for several years before moving to Portland, where he entered the profession of an actor. Ray Craven was able to come down yesterday afternoon with the aid of crutches. This is the first time he has been able to be out in several weeks, having been confined to his bed with a severe attack of inflamatory rheu matism. President L.M. Gilbert, of the North western Prune Association, reports that practically the whole of the asso ciation's pool, amounting to 40 car loads, has been sold at a price netting the growers betterthan 6 cents a pound for the 30-40 size. Farnham officiating. The newly married couple left on the afternoon train for Dayton, where they will make their home. After the first of the year, the Polk County School Officers' Association will begin holding a series of school meetings in every section in the county, pursuing much the same line of work that was followed in the Teachers' Officers' and Parents' Meet- inga held throughout Polk county last spring. Marshal T. A. Odom arrested three hobos whom he found encamped in the city park Wednesday afternoon and gave them a night's lodging in the city jail. Early yesterday morn ing he released them and suggested that it was time for them to be going. They needed no second suggestion and left town.immediately. The funeral of the late W. S. Sim- son was held at the family home Wed nesday afternoon, the remains being taken to the Odd Fellows' cemetery for burial. Mrs. Simson will accom pany her son-in-law, Mr. VanVoorhis back to Taholah, Washington, where she intends to make her home. County Superintendent Finds Increase in Attendance in Polk County Schools. The report of County School Super intendent H. C. Seymour on the con dition of the public schools of Polk county for the month ending Novem ber 27, gives a total of 2608 pupils in attendance of which 1372 are boys and 1236 girls. During the month 1487 pupils were neither absent nor tardy. The average daily attendance waa 2421, or 96.2 per cent, a trifle higher than the attendance of the previous month. The total number of teaching days in the month was 17. During November, 21 pupils were admitted who had been registered in other schools. 175 pupils were dropped and 115 were re-admitted. The total number of pupils now on register who have been regiatered in other schools is 40. The following schools were placed on the roll of honor for attendance, having made a per cent of 95 or more . Zena, Dallas, Smithfield, Eola, Pedee, Red Prairie, Bridgeport, Lewisville, Ballston, Salt Creek, Monmouth, Airlie, Perrydale, Gooseneck, Coch rane, Butler, Rickreull, Oak Point, Independence, Brush College, West Salem, Buena Vista, Buell, Popcorn, Harmony, Upper Salt Creek, Lincoln, North Dallas, Enterprise, Suver, Etna Fir Grove, Sunnyslope, Lone Star, McCoy, Guthrie, Liberty, Falls City, Black Rock, Cherry Grove, Mountain View, Rock Creek, Highland, and District Number 67. Oregon MAKES MONTHLY REPORT By comparing the records of the height of the Willamette river last year and the height Friday" it was found that the river is one foot lower now than it was one year ago Decem ber 4. Lack of rain is tne principal cause. The steamers from d jn the river report no difficulty in coming up. Up river navigation, however, is more difficult. The height ot the river last year on December 4 was 2.9 feet above low water. The markings Friday showed the water to be only 1.9 feet above. The precipitation of rain fall has been very little, not cer 12 inches. Statesman. R. R.
