Orville 8hultz and family have moved to Dallas and he will be em ployed in Lynch's barber shop during the coming winter. Mrs. Clarence Whiteside, of Dallas, visited friends and relatives in this city the first of the week. Benton County Republican. The city will install a cement cross walk between the corners occupied by the feed store of Ray & Company and the Vaudette theater. The dates for the annual Polk County Teachers' Institute have been set for Wednesday, Thursday and Fri day, October 14, 15 and 16. . County School Superintendent H. B. Belt, of Yamhill county, was up from McMlnnvllle, Friday, attending the Polk County Industrial Fair. The merry-go-round that, during the School Fair, was run daily in the teuton the Riley property, was shipped back to Portland, Saturday afternoon. A man living on Mill creek near The Dalles picked over 1,200 pounds of cherries from one of his cherry trees last year, and over 1,100 pounds this year. State Organizer F. B. Tichenor will meet the Woodmen of tho World at the Hall tonight. All members of the lodge are earnestly requested to be present. Ed Jacobson received a flue new truck Saturday, which has been put into use in his draying business. He will have two trucks in steady oper ation during the coming winter and may even further increase his equip ment next spring.' Irv SDyder was quite seriously injured Friday by a kick from a horse. The blow landed over his heart, knock ing him senseless and bruising him severely. Medical attention was se cured at once and it is thought that his recovery will be rapid. The drug firm of Belt & Switzer has now fully completed its stock and it is pronounced an up to date store in every respect. Mr. Belt is an experi enced druggist having been in tho business for over thirty years. He came here from Independence. Sheri dan Sun. It The unexpected tipping of a plank that bad been laid across the sewer ditch on Washington street near the Woodman Hall, Friday, threw Mrs. George Cutler to the ground and sprained her ankle severely. The crosswalk had been removed while the ditch was being finished and the plank put in its place as a temporary substitute had not been carefully placed. P. T. Cunningham, 1st lieutenant of Company F.,0. N. G.,of McMinnville, is In Dallas assisting Lieutenant L. A. Bollman and H. B. Stout in preparing the local rifle range on the Coovert farm westof Dallas, forthe beginning of rifle practice. Mr. Koser has a fine farm, where he lives and raises not only Berkshire hogs, but Cotswold sheep. This year he had about CO acres of clover which ho threshed for seed. and in conversation with him wo find that the yield throughout the valley this year will not be much more than one-half crop.
