H" T talnly has a right to thick there are a (food many, especially in the Republi can party, but we sometimes wonder If hsdoeantorerestimate the on tuber. Jut now tbe Governor is going over the stats and making campaign speeches la which be bewailstbe attack made on Senator Fulton by Francis Heaey. This Is nothing but a cheap - attempt to win rotes among Mr. Ful ton's personal friends and political supporters. Wonder if the Governor thinks the people of Oregon have for gotten Mr. Heney's first speech In Portland, In which the California prosecutor gave the Governor as bis authority for qaoting what was sup posed to have been said In an inter view between Fulton and Chamber lain concerning the appointment of one J. S. Smith to a position in the penitentiary an Interview, by the way, whlob Senator Fulton says was not at all as quoted by Mr. Heney, and one which he thought was to bave been kept sacred as confidential be tween himself and the Governor. It will be remembered that Heney was using this Interview In an attempt to Injure Fulton s candidacy, and it will also be remembered that the Governor rushed Into print the next morning to con firm all that Heney bad said. This, of course, all happened at a time when Chamberlain was expecting to bave Fulton as bis opponent ut the June election Instead of Mr. Cake, and he was not particularly concerned about defending Fulton's character against Heney's attacks just then ; In fact, he showed an eugor willingness to asHist the Heney game as far as possible by Jumping into print and confirming all that bad been said about the Smith Interview. Now, with Mr. Fulton out of the way, the Governor makes a cheap bid for Fulton votes by saying that Mr. Cakesbould bave'defendud the Senator from the attacks of Heney. It wax noticeable that the Governor did not do any defending as long as Fulton was In the race, but was helping Heney all be could. The contest between Cake and Fulton was abso lutely clean and free from person alities, each pledging the victorious candidate bis support in the event of his own defeat. The only help Honey got was from the Democratic candi date. The efforts being put forth by Senator Fulton to elect Mr. Cake prove that Fulton Is sincere In bis desire for Republican victory, and it also proves that In attempting to stir up bitterness where there Is none, Oregon's governor is exhibiting many Of the qualities of a political shyster. week. The heaviest registration since the books reopened baa been in East and South Dallas, IS and 11 names being added. Sc ia treating the lagging, torpid liver it Is a great mistake to lash it with strong drastic drugs. A torpid liver Is but an indication of as ill -nourished, enfeeblttd body hose organs are weary with ovel work. Start with the stomach and allied organs of digestion and nutrition. Put them la working order and see how quickly your liver will become active. Electricity for Lightin Is only expensive to people who are wasteful and careless. To you, who are naturally careful,, it does not come high. It Is economical because It can be quickly turned off wnen not needed. With gas or kerosene there is the temptation to let light burn when not needed to save bother of lighting and adjusting. In some homes the electric light bills amount to only one or two dollars per month. You can probably get some kind of artificial light for less money than electric light, but does it save you anything when it limits op portunities for work and recreation ruins your eyesight smokes your walls mars decorations and increases household work. You could probably save a dollar tomorrow by going without your meals but it wouldn t be economy. It is not so much what you save, but how you save that counts. WILLAMETTE VALLEY CO.
