- attempt to win rotes among Mr. Ful

supporters. Wonder if the Governor
thinks the people of Oregon have for
gotten Mr. Heney's first speech In
Portland, In which the California
prosecutor gave the Governor as bis
authority for qaoting what was sup
posed to have been said In an inter
view between Fulton and Chamber
lain concerning the appointment of
one J. S. Smith to a position in the
penitentiary an Interview, by the
way, whlob Senator Fulton says was
not at all as quoted by Mr. Heney, and
one which he thought was to bave
been kept sacred as confidential be
tween himself and the Governor. It
will be remembered that Heney was
using this Interview In an attempt to
Injure Fulton s candidacy, and it will
also be remembered that the Governor
rushed Into print the next morning to
con firm all that Heney bad said. This,
of course, all happened at a time when
Chamberlain was expecting to bave
Fulton as bis opponent ut the June
election Instead of Mr. Cake, and he
was not particularly concerned about
defending Fulton's character against
Heney's attacks just then ; In fact, he
showed an eugor willingness to asHist

Jumping into print and confirming all
that bad been said about the Smith
Interview.
Now, with Mr. Fulton out of the
way, the Governor makes a cheap bid
for Fulton votes by saying that Mr.
Cakesbould bave'defendud the Senator
from the attacks of Heney. It wax
noticeable that the Governor did not
do any defending as long as Fulton

between Cake and Fulton was abso

candidate bis support in the event of
his own defeat. The only help Honey

Senator Fulton to elect Mr. Cake

Electricity for Lightin
Is only expensive to people who are
wasteful and careless. To you, who
are naturally careful,, it does not
come high.
It Is economical because It can be quickly turned off wnen not needed.
With gas or kerosene there is the temptation to let light burn when
not needed to save bother of lighting and adjusting. In some homes
the electric light bills amount to only one or two dollars per month.
You can probably get some kind of artificial light for less money
than electric light, but does it save you anything when it limits op
portunities for work and recreation ruins your eyesight smokes
your walls mars decorations and increases household work. You
could probably save a dollar tomorrow by going without your meals
but it wouldn t be economy. It is not so much what you save, but
how you save that counts.
