Handicapped by tb loss of its big forward, Fenton, and by the injured arm which prevented Shaw, the center, from playing his usual game, the basketball team of Dallas College met its first defeat for this Beason, at the hands of the fast aggregation from Muscarine, Iowa, Tuesday and Wed nesday nights. The score In the first game was 21 to 14, and In the second, IS to 13. The seats for the first game were all sold before 10 o'clock Tuesday morn ing, and when the game was called at 8 :30 o'clock that night, the gym nasium was packed with the largest throng of spectators that had ever at tended a basketball game in this city. Especially large delegations from Bickreall and Independence were pres ent, with their usual striking show of state loyalty and stanch support of the team in crimson as representing the athletic prowess of Oregon against the pick of the Eastern states. The local team played hard and well but it was clearly a hopeless fight long before the end of the first half, since the absence of Fenton, and the in jured condition of Shaw's arm effect ually broke up the plays upon which Dallas relies mainly for its scoring. Bice, the substitute for Fenton, played a beautiful game on the floor however, and succeeded in making 8 of the li points scored. The Iowa team seemed to be perfect in goal throwing, and scarcely a shot that they took during the game failed to score, while Dallas seemed to be laboring under adverse fortune in the matter of basket tossing. Superior to their opponents in team work, they secured three shots to Iowa's one, but nearly every time the ball rolled round and round the basket rim and dropped back into the court, while the crowd of rooters fairly howled with exasper ation. In the second game Wednesday evening, Dallas went in with renewed determination, and until the last sec ond of the play it was a mere toss-up which team had the advantage. Dal las again' demonstrated its marked superiority in team work, while Iowa showed, if possible, an even greater degree of sureness in its goal throw ing than in the previous game. Ful ler easily played star for the visiting team, scoring three baskets, two of which were the most sensational long shots ever made In a game on the local floor. Shaw played a muoh faster game than he had played on the night before and scored another goal, shutting out Littlebrldge, the oppos ing center, for the first time in 61 games. This game was without doubt the fastest that has been played on the local court during the past two years, and it is commonly conceded that had the Dallas team been in Its usual con dition, with its regular line-up, the tide of victory would probably have been turned In its favor. The Iowa aggregation left yesterday for Corvallls, where a return game will be played with the O. A. C. five. My floe herd of 18 or 20 full-blooded and registered Jerseys is for sale. All must be sold at once. Watch for posters. G. N. Townsend, Perrydale, Or.
