Mr. Rork is from Dallas, Texas, and is well pleased with the Willamette valley, and expresses surprise at the profusion and beauty of the flowers in bloom here at this time. A band of youths, about one hundred strong, treated Dee Dunn and Lott Brown to an old-fashioned charivari last Friday night. Both the young bridegrooms responded with cigars, and were apparently well pleased with the interest shown by their friends. Collins went to Portland Monday morning to attend the meeting of the Pioneers and Indian War Veterans and, incidentally to meet his daughters, who will arrive there from Madison, S. D., today. Owing to the lateness of the season. the Colosseum skating rink will be opened only one night each week here after. The skating sessions will be held on Saturday night, from 8 to 11 o'clock. The band will be in attend ance. W. E. Critchlow will leave Dallas on Saturday to go to Seattle, where he will take up the work of organization and agitation for the Prohibition Association of Washington. Mr. Critchlow is. as vet. uncertain whether his work will lie in Seattle, or in the field in some other part of the state. His friends will wish him all success in the line of work he has chosen. A cement walk will also be put down In front of the Col lege building. Last Friday evening, the members of Mrs. G. L. Hawkins' and Miss Naana Forbes' Sunday-school classes gave a farewell party to the latter at the home of J. L. Collins. Many of the young ladies were present to give their best wishes to their former teacher, who is soon to leave for her home in the East. Dancy, of Salem, manager of the Pacific States Telephone Com pany's lines in Polk and Marlon counties, was a business visitor in Dallas yesterday. Born, Monday, June 17, 1907, to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gerllnger, a son. Edward, Jr., is the first grandson of President L. Gerlinger of the Dallas & Falls City railroad. The hop yards about town are all exhibiting a strong and luxuriant growth. Most of the preliminary training is done, and the work of stripping and suckering Is well under way. The end of the cold rain, and the commencement of these hot days, has set the electric fans going In the con fectionery stores, and has resulted in the installment of several new fans in other stores. Captain V. P. Fiske, editor of the Itemizer, is slowly recovering from a long and stubborn attack of rheuma tism, His many friends in the county will be glad to learn that he Is again able to be in his office. M. M. Jones, of Monmouth, was a Dallas visitor yesterday. He says the carpenters are making rapid progress in the construction of the cannery in that city and the building will soon be under roof. Henry Brown, who was married in Portland, Sunday, arrived here with his wife Monday evening. Mrs. Brown, who was formerly Mrs. Bailey, is a niece of William Kersey, a well known citizen of Dallas. By diligent use of the weeding shovel and at the expense of much toil and pains, Milo Woods is uproot ing more thistles from the Courthouse lawn than a casual observer would think could find room there. Miss Lina Stouffer, who has been teaching school at St. Helens, arrived In Dallas, Monday evening, having finished her years school work. She will spend her vacation at home, and has not yet decided whether she will teach another year. Jack Sibley and Harry Byers, who arrived here Sunday night, from Portland, went on to Falls City, Mon day morning, to join John VanOrs- dels surveying crew, and take up once more the strenuous exercises of the chain and transit. Grand Master Lot L. Pearce ap pointed Oscar Hayter, of Dallas, to the office of Senior Steward of the Oregon Grand Lodge of Masons. Mr, Hayter also received the appointment of Grand Master of the Second Vail in the Royal Arch Chapter. R. E. Williams returned home yes terday from a week's stay in Portland where he attended the Masonic Grand Lodge and the meeting of the State Bankers' Association. Mr. Williams was honored by the latter organiza tion by being elected to the office of Treasurer. P. B. Stoddard, district manager of the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insur ance Company, has moved his family from Portland to Dallas and will be come a permanent resident. He has rented the Chapman dwelling house on Church street Mr. Stoddard's terri tory is Polk, Benton, Yamhill, Wash ington and Tillamook counties, and he moves to Dallas to be nearer his work. All singers, take notice! The music committee of the Fourth of July cele bration, requests every singer In Dallas to attend a meeting in the Presbyterian church, Saturday eve ning, at 8 o'clock. New choruses have been ordered from Portland, and it is necessary that rehearsals begin next week. The committee desires every singer to consider this a personal invi tation to take part.
